It is indeed a belt issue if the dryer blows hot air, which means the motor is running, but the drum does not turn. Otherwise, the thermal fuse (part number 3392519) mounted on the blower has failed. This thermal fuse is wired in series with the motor circuit and its failure results in the motor not running and the dryer not working at all.

Remove the dryer real panel to access the blower housing and check the continuity of the thermal fuse. Grab a volt-ohmmeter and set it to the R X 1 scale then disconnect one wire from the thermal fuse terminals then check the continuity of the thermal fuse. Replace the thermal fuse should it read open.

Check the idler pulley (part number 691366) for twists and bends should the belt has come off. Replace it if that is the case.

Pull the lint trap out then remove the two screws on the lint trap slot opening. Push the top panel forward to release the clips attaching it to the front panel. Lift the front of the top panel then tilt it to the rear of the dryer to access the screws attaching the front panel to the dryer cabinet. Disconnect the door switch wiring harness then pull the top of the front panel forward and then lift it up to release it from the bottom hooks and remove it from the cabinet.

Wrap the belt around the drum with the ribs facing the drum then route it under the idler puller while pulling the idler pulley to the right then wrap the belt around the motor pulley like the one shown in the figure.

Reinstall the front and the top panels by following the removal steps in reverse.

Kenmore 970C8709210 dryer won't tumble. When you press the start button it just sort of moans and shuts off. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

per your model no. you are in Canada. in USA if dryer hummmming
when you press start button and will shuts off in less then 20 seconds and drum turns by hand then we change motor. one more thing if dryer works on 220/240 v ac and if power cord is not install correctly or wall plug is not wired correctly, mean motor getting 220 v ac not 120 v ac then it will do the same thing. hope this will help you.

Dryer will not spin. Its a propane dryer and the heat is fine...just wont spin. I assume there is a belt somewhere?

Belt is on the inside. It wraps around the motor pulley and the drum. Opening the dryer is required. Make sure unit is unpluged 1st. Very easy repair. Belt can be ordered online and shipped to you. Model and serial number will be required. Probably about a $15 - $30 repair. Should take about 30 -45 minutes on the long side. Instruction to open your dryer should be here: http://www.partselect.com/dryer+open-cabinet+repair.htm

Kenmore series 80 dryer . Drum does not spin, even when empty.

Good day,
If runs and heats, then the most probable cause is a broken belt.

Not hard to change. Below is a tutorial on how.
The Kenmore line is manufactured by Whirlpool.

Can't get replacement parts back on Kenmore 60 series dryer.

The belt has groves, right? Make sure the groves go over the motor pulley from the right. The idler pulley is spring loaded. Place the belt around the idling pulley with the smooth side of the belt on the pulley. This should work.
