Most likely the vertical oscillator circuit has failed. As CRT televisions have gone the way of the dinosaur, my advice to you is to give a fond adieu and invest in a new TV.

I got some water between the 2 screens at the bottom of my HP 5880n. I took the screen out and separated the 2 screens at the bottom and wiped and let dry. I put it back together after it dried and put back in tv, now when it1s on it has a foot and a half circle that is clear as a bell and the rest looks blurred. is there a fix for it or do i have to replace. Where can I find a replacement, I looked on line and can not find any. Thx

hi all .ive had the same problem,a thick black line down screen.sometimes it flickers from top to bottom and other permantly in view.but i have solved it.forget your ic boards and taking apart tv.have you got either a ps3 or wii connected to tv.if so unplug power lead from socket and relocate in seperate socket.make sure the lead is completely free of any other leads and you might just find this works.i think the power lead creates some sort of frequency that the tv picks up .good luck hope it works

tv needs repair ..possible bad buffer board or logic board bad and or possibly a bad panel ..

Try moving speakers away from the TV.

this symptom, sometimes called the tube light effect, it is characterised by a bright thin horizontal line across the middle of the screen. this symptom is caused by a breakdown in the vertical deflection circuit. hence maybe the trouble maybe in the vertical oscillator, amplifier or output circuits. but if all i have said is not clear to you, better bring it to a qualified tv technician. good luck!

What you have described is definitely some form of Electrical Interference. Interference can come from a variety of causes. Is the Cable Inputting the Cable Box close to some High Voltage Electrical Lines? Or Are you located near some Electrical Power Station? Or A Police station, where the Radio Transmitter of the Police Station causing the Interference? As I said, there are a variety of reasons. Also, Try to check if the connector is loose at the rear of the Cable Box, or at the rear of the TV. You will have to eliminate every possibility reason. Wish i could help further.
