If there is a vertical chart or table to be printed, the line will not be straight. I have tried every trouble shooting suggestion in the book that came with the printer.
I will say that there was a paper jam once, and it has not printed correctly since then.

Try doing head alignment, this feature is located under the printer properties... goto Start, then Setting, then Printer and faxes, and point to the printer model, right click and select Properties... then select Maintenance and from there, you can clean head and head alignment... print the alignment sheet and select the best straight line.. that should help.

You can try Print-Quality Plot test to diagnose the problem. Load paper, when ready light up, then press Form Feed and Media Source keys together. After print is done, unload paper.
This plot consists six tests. The third one is Vertical Line Straightness (VLS) test. You can read the HP 430 Service Manual page 6-7, 6-8 and 6-9. These articles will tell you how to correect the problem.
Try replacing the toner if you have another one, even old one should be ok to test, if not the look at the toner drum and see if there is any marks on it.
Hi my mom has a brother fax machine. When printing it puts a vertical line straight down the middle. It takes the carbon paper and I noticed underneath there is a black nob thing that sticks up and that is whats making this line why and what to do? Thanks vicky
