Black box comes up on my older big screen non lcd tv mitsubishi and random letters and numbers start coming across it like they are being typed and colors change, they become underline and symbols are used. The weird thing is, it happens different times of day and night but seems to only happen when I'm watching one of the different star trek shows like Generations, Next Generation, Voyager, etc. I used to say it was haunted but now I'm laughingly saying that the aliens are trying to contact me!

It is a text box. You can disable it within your television's closed captioning settings. You have to go into your menu and go to closed captioning and enter the category and go to mode off

Ur tv Closed Captioning is still on like CC 1,2,3 or Text 1,2,3 is on.Look in ur remote control for a button said CC press it make all CC 1,2,3 to all off.Go into memu find closed caption function Text 1,2,3 turn it to all off.These steps,will stop random squares boxes lettering showing up ur tv any channels.
It part of the caption functions is on.Tries find in ur tv menu,goto captioning functions like CC1,2,3 and Text 1,2,3.Turn it all off.These radom black boxes and trying typing somethings,should stop.
If it is a large black rectangle that blots out the middle of the screen then you need to check your CC (closed caption) setting. Make sure the closed caption is turned off. I'm not up to date on the newer sets, but a lot of the older ones had more than one CC setting. One setting ran the captioning across the bottom, another put it in a big black box in the center of the screen. Most places didn't support the full text so all that showed was a big black rectangle on the screen. Since I'm not sure exactly what your rectangle looks like, this is my best estimate of your problem. Hope this helps.
shut off close caption. use the CC button onthe remote or go in to the menu and change close caption to CC1. this box is the close caption in TEXT(1,2) which will put on a black box whenever there is caption present.
What you have described is definitely some form of Electrical Interference. Interference can come from a variety of causes. Is the Cable Inputting the Cable Box close to some High Voltage Electrical Lines? Or Are you located near some Electrical Power Station? Or A Police station, where the Radio Transmitter of the Police Station causing the Interference? As I said, there are a variety of reasons. Also, Try to check if the connector is loose at the rear of the Cable Box, or at the rear of the TV.
You will have to eliminate every possibility reason.
