The bottom screen is fiddly to replace, but easier than the top one lol. Get a cheap screen off Ebay/DealExtreme and DIY - DIY guides are on YouTube. Specialist tool needed is a tri-wing driver.

Hello there! First of all let me tell you that your nintendo ds can be repaired and it is not trash... what you need is to get the bottom screen to be repaired ....you can do it sending it to the nintendo repair shop or by doing it yourself by following this youtube guide http://www.youtube.com/user/nintendorepair.

Bottom 'touch' screen not working since son dropped console on pavement from car. If I randomly press the screen, it does start up the console, but only the top screen shows anything, so is useless...

Sounds like both your touch screen and bottom LCD screen are broken, but your back light still works. That is good news, because you can simply buy a kit to replace the LCD screen, the touch screen (two separate kits), and repair the console easily.

DS lite green light comes on, top screen flash, then switches off

Check L2 near the power switch on your DS mobo. That part usually get loosen or taken out when you drop your DS. And usually you can recover it when dismantling your DS.

Ds lite dropped while open, touchscreen now white.

With white screens it usually the LCD that went out, since D.S. do not have a reset button, the only way to reset it to Factory settings would be to remove that battery, and you would need to remove the little screws on the back. I would leave that last. However if you guys have had this DS for less than a year i would contact Nintendo, or go to the website
because you would still be under the one year Manufactures warranty. I would highly recommend to not state it was dropped. Just that the screen went blank all of a sudden. Touch screen works fine. Make sure there is no physical damage though, as that usually voids warranty. I had to do that for my Wii. No cost to me since under one year. If its been longer then the year then you could do the hard reset by removing the batter for a few mins.
Good Luck!

Potentially dead Nintendo DS lite LCD screen. (bottom)

Hey, I can help you.

Yes, the Bottom LCD is dead. You will have to exchange it.

Below I have two links you should follow through. One to purchase a bottom LCD for a very cheap price and the other will show you how to replace the bottom LCD.

REMEMBER.. To place a plastic pad under the bottom lcd so it doesn't ground out the board. Forgetting to do this could potentially blow a fuse and you will have to replace those!!

Turns on and lights up but no images on top screen

The DS top screen has two components, which are the LCD display, and the backlight. If the LCD display has gone bad but the backlight still works and the connecter is seated properly, the DS will still power on and the lower screen will be normal, and the top screen will light, but it won’t display anything.

You didn’t mention if your DS is the original DS or the DS Lite. Replacement top screens for the DS Lite are cheap on eBay, but installing the screen is a bit complex. The screen for the original DS is a different part and they are more expensive and hard to find.

I’ve never worked on an original DS, so I can only tell you about installing the top screen on a DS Lite.

First, the DS Lite has to be just about completely disassembled. You have to completely remove the top and bottom cases, pull out the microphone and wi-fi cables, and release the connecter for the top screen, which is located on the main board in the lower case. You’ll need the tri-wing screwdriver. You can leave the bottom screen/touch screen assembly attached to the main board, but be careful not to pull or tear the flex cables. Check YouTube for videos on disassembling the DS Lite.

Here’s the deal breaker for most people: The speakers are soldered to the flex cable of the top screen. I’ve never seen a replacement sold with speakers. You’ll have to unsolder your speaker wires from the old screen cable and reconnect them to the new one. If you can’t solder, you could take the screens to a local tv/electronics repair shop and pay to have it done. I got this information for you from http://wiinewz.com/forums/nds-general-discussion/72805-ds-top-screen-white-blank.html this appears to be a common problem I hope this helps

Nintendo DS lite - dropped

Might be worth taking it into a phone repair shop to see if they can replace the LCD screen. (yes, a phone repair shop - a lot of them do portable console screens too!) If they can't do it, it's probably unfixable realistically.

Top Screen of DS has faded to white

if he dropped it then the bottom should not show up as well. the bottom screen you can play the older games plus get instructions for the new games. if they are both out then it is the motherboard. if it is top only, it is the lcd screen and you can get that replaced for about $45. find a place to fix it or send it to nintendo. thanks, connie
