Dishwasher not draining completely after new garbage disposal installed

If you hooked up the drain to the disposal directly there is no vent in the line. Use the air vent on the sink to connect the dishwasher drain hose. If there is no air vent, then you'll have to install one in the sink.

I have a badger 5 insinkrator gone bad--can it be replaced easily with the badger5 xp or should I stick with the badger 5???I believe the xp is 3/4 vs 1/2 maybe a problem--

you should not have a problem going with the ' 5xp ' model badger vs. the regular badger 5 --- everything pretty much mounts the same and the hose outlet is the same size,, so it will install in minutes. it is build stronger and will last a lot longer -- for the extra money it is a good choice.

Just got brand new sink, there are two holes at the bottom side of it and when i run the water, water comes out the hole on the right?

there should be two openings at the bottom, one for the drain to the drain line, and one towards the top for a dishwasher to drain into the garbage disposal. If you do not have a dishwasher, the top drain should come with a cap, and the lower drain is what the drain pipe gets tied to.

How do you disassemble the Badger5 1/2 horsepower sink erator.model #5-81

The badger has two parts:
1) The sink strainer basket that attaches to sink with three screws visible from below.
2) The disposal which connects to sink basket with connector ring.
There is a rubber washer between disposal and sink basket

If you drop disposal loose from the sink, you can get spoons and other stuff out.
The disposal itself does not come apart for repairs.

I wrote tips for replacing disposal, which include information you might be able to use:

When I worked apartment maintenance, we replaced disposal with same brand disposal.
That way we didn't have to change out sink basket or move pipes around under the sink.
How to: Disconnect 2 nuts on p-trap and trap falls loose.
Rotate steel connector disk that holds disposal to sink basket, and disposal comes off.
Before installing new disposal.
Attach electric wire to new disposal, and push in reset button.
Attach dishwasher tube to new disposal. Knock out plug inside dishwasher opening.
Push new disposal up into place, and attach to old sink basket.
There is a rubber washer between disposal and sink basket, use new washer.
Attachment ring catches at three points, all three have to connect.
You can use bottle jack to lift disposal if you have problem.
Re-assemble tubular pipe.

If this is your home, you want new sink basket that comes with new disposal because it looks shiny and new.
Buy a tub of plumbers putty also.
Remove old sink basket and clean sink opening.
Put finger-size roll of plumbers putty around sink opening, and then push new strainer basket into plumbers putty.
Tighten basket from below, wipe away excess putty around sink opening.
Install new disposal as described above.

Tips for tubular pipes:
When taking apart tubular pipes, start at p-trap and take apart as few pieces as needed to do job.
On image below, loosen both upper and lower nuts, trap falls loose, and then work on disposal.
Any tubular drain pipe that gets moved while working under sink needs to be disassembled, cleaned and re-assembled.
Metal pipes have rubber washer >> always use new rubber washers.
Plastic pipes have plastic washers > plastic washers can be cleaned and re-used.
Plastic washers have flat side that goes toward nut, tapered side away from nut.

When reassembling tubular pipe, we use rectorseal on washers and joints.
Slap a good amount on washer just before pushing washer in place and attaching nut.
Rectorseal will ensure tubular drain pipes won't leak.

I installed a bager disposal and a dishwasher brand new with all new hoses, but the washer won't drain. Any ideas? Kenneth

Does the dishwasher TRY to drain, and it just won't? Or does the dishwasher not even try to drain? You might have a stuck float or other sensor somewhere, depending on what your situation is...

Badger5 disposal leaks out the bottom

If it is actually leaking out the bottom of the disposal, and not from under the sink, or the outlet of the disposal into the drain, or where the dishwasher discharge enters the disposal, then it could be the seal leaking. If so it just isn't worth fixing, buy a new disposal. They are easy to install for a DIYer and not that expensive. But check for those OTHER leaks first.

In sink erator leaking at bottom by electrical connection

I don't think it can be fixed by anyone other than the factory. I wanted to find a parts list so I could buy a seal that goes above the motor housing (which is where i think the problem really is) and repair it myself. I wish I had better news but since the leak is small and the motor still works, I'm going to keep a bucket beneath it and periodically empty it as recommended by a previous contributor.
