Cassetter does not eject
Unfortunately, the tape won't go down to the play position either, so you can't rewind it.

Either the tape is jamed round sound head, or the door is stuck with somthing like a handle of the case on side of camera, but sounds like tape stuck, run film backward a little (not forward) as more tape will get stuck in forward motion.

SOURCE: I have a Sony Handy CAM 8 CCD-FX310. It will
I had the same problem with a Sony FX410, not much different than a FX310. With my camera all i had to do was to push the top down with a gentle push, it would engage and play and record normal. Don't force it hard, just a light pressure to help the cradle down. Most of these Sony cameras are crappy when it comes to loading the tape, most if not all the Sony's i've had end up with this problem, no matter what model you have. I've taken my camera competely apart and could not find the problem for not pulling down the tape, don't know if it can be a sensor or what, i never could find anything broken or loose or misalign, i oiled all the joints and moving parts with a light dab of thin oil, it worked fine except for that darn cradle not pulling down the tape.
Another thing that causes this is when the tape is to tight? In other words the tape should have a slight **** in it, i once ran into this big problem when the tape would not load and the camera kept ejecting it over and over. It was when i tried a new tape that i noticed how well it loaded yet the other tape wouldn't load. So i pulled out the tape and poked that little hole on the back right below the left hand pick up reel, i then turned the reel with my finger and gave it some slack, not much just enough to see the tape a little loose. I then reloaded the tape and it worked like a charm, seems that if the tape if to tight the camera won't accept it as the reels need to adjust back and forth for a few seconds, its that wacky sound you hear when you load a tape, seems like it has to adjust the tention inside the take up reels. Hope this might help you some?
