Question about Intel D865GBF Motherboard

1 Answer

I think I burned up my video card. How do I recognize video cards I can/cannot use on my D856GBF motherboard? The original was a Radeon. The most recent deceased was a GeForce.

Perhaps I should have been more clear.
Before I buy a video card, I want to know whether it is likely to work in my computer.
The previous video cards were AGP,
so I know enough not to use PCI-express.
I think my computer was made before DDR3,
    so that is another limitation.
Anything else I should look for?

As my computer at home is not working,
any solutions I don't see in the next
couple hours I won't see until tomorrow.

    I phoned a friend.
AGP is sufficiently standardized that I can
use any AGP card for which I have a driver.

To know which of the video cards can be use and cannot be use... well try to connect your video card to your motherboard.. now turn on the cpu.. usual burned (deffective) video cards will cause the cpu not to boot and instead will make a beep codes...some video if they were successfully boot up will cause computer hanging during when the cpu is being used...some video cards will display lines and distracted colors on the monitor while the cpu is on..
This video card should not be used and needs replacement immediately so that it could not affect other hardware performance.

Much appreciated if you rate this help..thanks..

Testimonial: "It would have been more helpful had I not phoned a friend and bought a card first. The VisionTek Radeon HD 3650 that seems to be working. I had to upgrade to Fedora 13 first."

    Hi!

    Thanks for clearing things up..
Anyways...Your motherboard is Intel D865GBF is keyed for 1.5 volt and 0.8 volt AGP video cards and will only support AGP graphics card at 4x and 8x speed. (do not use 1.5v AGP cards which supports only 2x speed because it is not compatible)
The best video card until today that can be used for your motherboard is HIS Radeon HD 3850 Video Card - 512MB GDDR3, AGP 8X and ATI X1650 4x/8x agp for gaming.

And for your guidance.. the physical look of the slot will be like in this image.

It is advisable not to use latest video cards product as it uses most frequently 3.3 volts....Remember 3.3v AGP cards is not supported by your motherboard. Using this as your graphics card may cause serious damage on your motherboard.

thanks... please comment again if you still have question. thanks
