I had the Bro 8840D repaired following a paper jam. I am unable to get it to pull paper through. Says paper jam, but no jam exists. The tech repair shop said a switch had been flipped when the first jam took place. Can you tell where to find the switch to check it?

Okay, try this...clear the paper jam message and try to make a copy using the manual bypass (MP tray) located on front of machine. if copy comes through okay, then chances are you have a problem in main cassette area. pull cassette out, and make sure the rear stop inside cassette is not pushed too tightly against rear of paper stack. should leave about 1/8" gap. if thats okay, then sounds like you may need your paper pickup roller replaced. sounds like your repair shop just fixed the error, not the cause of the error.

I cant fix the paper jam problem. every time i take the paper jam out it jams again

I have had paper jams in five different places on this machine. It has jammed at the pickup point from the tray, in which case you have to remove the paper tray and pull the jammed paper out. It has jammed at the manual paper feed tray, in which case you just have to pull the jammed paper out of the feed rollers. It has jammed at the toner/drum, in which case you have to open the front cover and pull the toner cartridge out to remove the jam. It has jammed in the back of the machine where the paper feeds through to the output tray, in which case you have to open the small back panel and remove the paper. And it has jammed in the output rollers, in which case you have to reach inside the output tray and remove the paper. Then once the jam is cleared there are times when the machine has to be unplugged for up to 8 hours to reset before it will function properly.

Brother MFC-8840D printer w/false paper jam indication.

With my Brother 8840D I have had paper jams that when cleared would not delete from the display nor would the machine operate until I unplugged the machine for around eight hours. I guess it is a sort of reset or reboot.

Have the same problem

This has nothing to do with printer drivers or O/S. It means the print head is not travelling correctly. Did this happen after a paper jam? If so see my previous post:

Check that there is no paper jammed up on each side of where the print head travels.
Easiest way to do this is to power off/on. While the machine is going through its initial startup listen for when the print head travels along its carriage (from right to left). When you hear it, immediately switch off the power.
Open the main body of the printer and hopefully the print head will be stopped midway, you can then check at each end for any jammed paper.
If this does not solve issue, it will require an engineer.

If you are in the UK, call Brother UK tech support on 0870 830 4000. They will arrange a warranty repair, or pass you on to a repair agent if the machine is out of warranty.

How do I get that message removed?

Most likely their is paper in it yet you can'lt see it, usually I noticed problems like this
My suggesting is call a Service Tech and Have him remove the Fuser unit and check for paper in that area.

your welcome to contact us if no techs are in the area.
