I know nothing about AC units but I recently opened the front up on a unit that I don't know if it was ever used. It has styrofoam on the top, bottom, sides and in back of the coils (Front). Is the styrofoam just packing material ?that should be removed?

tilt your ac down on the outside,so it will drain properly,if that doesnt help, pour some bleach in the water inside to get rid of mold that clogs the drain
I don't think a piece of thrown away Styrofoam is the problem. I'm more concerned that you may have also thrown the Owner's Manual away too. You said, "there's nothing on the front to get cool air in." Are you saying, that the front of the unit that has fixed louvers at the bottom and adjustable louvers at the top is missing? Because that's where the cool air comes out thru the adjustable louvers), when the unit is in operation. If the entire front of the unit is missing and the unit is brand new, you need to contact retailer you purchased it from ASAP.
I hope this helps and thank you for choosing FixYa.
I don't know if that printer has a rear access panel, so here's a little trick....uncurl a thin paperclip, putting a loop at one end for your finger, and a barb bend at the other end (think of the sharp part of a fish hook) at the other end, Use the hook to grab and remove the Styrofoam. Another solution, although more tricky and potentially dangerous, is to put some crazy glue on the end of a piece of cardboard, and try to glue the end of the cardboard to the Styrofoam and gently remove the cardboard, hopefully with the styro in tow!
If it's leaking inside where filter cover is, then real good chance the drains being plugged is the only problem. If water (condensation) not running off roof when operating in cool mode, then I'd bet drains, which are located under unit on roof, and you should see them sticking down like buttons. They have a hole in side that needs cleaning with a pipe cleaner or similar to open them up. If need be, shut off power to unit and remove top cover on roof unit and look for the drain holes in base, and clean them out. If water comes in while raining, but AC not running, then it's gasket. That is remedied by removing ceiling assembly (just screws) and 4 bolts that pull/hold the upper and lower assemblies together, unplug wiring to upper unit, and simply lift it off, change gasket and re-install. Tighten those 4 bolts equally when gasket is aligned properly over hole, only until gasket is approx 1/2, original thickness. Plug harness back in and your done. (about an hours work.) Only other thing that may be wrong is styrofoam drip tray for cooling unit, under cover on roof may have a crack , allowing condensation to leak in. If that 's the case, you can try to find a sealant compatible with styrofoam to seal those cracks.
that is the internal packaging they refer to, it should be a block of foam that is to be removed. You may have to take off the front cover to get to it.
I don't know if this is the recommended way. Hold the unit facing you and look at the top of the unit. There is a seam about ¼” from the front.I simply used a small jewelers screwdriver and inserted it at the top of the unit about 1" from the side. I lifted the front section a little bit.It released one of six tabs that hold the face plate in place (two on top and two on each side). Repeat the same step on the other side then the sides. When you remove the face plate the silver on/off button will fall out, but don’t worry about that. Here is the tricky part.It has four star screws holding the back of the case to the electronics unit.I took a trip to the local Harbor Freight store and bought a star wrench set for $3.99.Remove the four screws and presto you can take the back casing right off.The batteries are at the bottom, but I can’t find any info on what type they are, so I don’t know what to replace them with, at least not yet.
Had same problem with Ge AC. Unplug take out of window and remove all cover screws. Pull up on cover and pull cover off ac, Remove front cover as well there are a couple screws in the front. When looking at front of ac, hit the Styrofoam housing towards your left (towards control panel). Spin fan blade to make sure that it is clear. Plug in to double check. I put a couple quarters between the styrofoam and the metal housing, so it would not slide back. Also tape the styrofoam between the seams this helps with better cooling. Use some good tape nothing cheap. I used black duck tape. It took about 20 mins. The hardest part is re installing the AC.
I have contacted Venturer Electronics Inc. (which have recently purchased RCA); they are in Toronto, Ontario. They suggested to perform a Manufacturer Reset (as follows); and if it works; system should power up [this means there was a glitch in the software]...(this usually happens when system is plugged into a power bar or surge protector) if not, contact them @ 1-800-721-4007. They honor the manufacturer's (RCA) 1 year warranty... with receipt.
To reset Unit:
Unplug Unit from AC power (other wires can stay connected)
Press the On/Standby button in front of Unit 15 times
Wait 30 minutes
Replug Unit to AC power
Press the On/Standby button to power up unit
Wait couple of minutes for unit to do its thing
**If unit works properly, then ensure not to plug unit into power bar or surge protector, keep plugged into wall.
**If unit will not power up properly, contact them for further instructions.
Hope this is helpful....
My Unit powered up wonderfully and is currenlty working like a charm.
Good luck!
