The two covers on top are just not aligned properly. Open both top covers (one opens to the right one to the left). Close the cover that opens toward the right 1st (you should hear it click into place) then close the second cover. Press "ok" should be good to go.
Generally there is a micro switch or a sensor that detects the opeing and closing of the printer and there is a tab that actuates the sensor on the cover or the scanner base, look for the switch and the tab and see if it is broken or obstructed. if you find the switch try actuating it with a thin pencil or something.
There is a black guide plate that opens partially when you open the back door, there's a sensor flag on that cover that goes thru the right side to a sensor, the arm on the guide needs to move freely, and the flag on the right must pass thru the sensor inside a hole on the right...
Pop off the right side cover - it is just held with clips. At the hinge, you will see that the cover switch arm that is supposed to move up and down as the cover opens & closes (in the slot in the geared hinge) is probably broken off. It is in the up position when the lid is closed, and down when the lid is open. I cut the shaft of a Q-tip to length and wedged it into the space to keep the cover switch up all of the time and still allow free movement of the lid.
Error 30 Top Cover Open or Print Cartridge Missing
Make sure the spring-mounted pin on the print head shroud is installed
properly and that it is detected by the ramp on the print cartridge as
the cover closes. The pin should enter the tower on the HVPS and
depress the cover switch.
Sorry a little late only just read your problem. The location is not the bottom tray feeder but the disk tray. In settings change your media type to "Printable Disk" the paper scource should automatically change to "Disk Tray" and hopefully every thing will work OK.
Unplug the printer. Hold the printer cover open while you plug in the printer. Then wait for the printer to power on while still holding the cover open.
Then close the cover.
The buttons should work and th error message should be gone.
