I can't change the file types on my Zoom H4n. The menu selection on the "record" setting does not look like the manual depicts it. There are no options for file type as indicated in the horribly written manual.

open up the battery door. Make sure that the switch it is not set to "stamina mode". This disables many main menu options

I use an earlier model but try:

Press the "red" light on the correct channel you are using for input. that will bring up the dialog to set input level. the +/- level set is on the same side of the device as the menu wheel.
You need to be in 4CH mode for the external lights to be on

If the menu button on your Zoom H4n recorder is not selecting or responding when pressed, it could be due to a few different reasons:

If your H4n is in STAMINA mode (Switch in battery compartment) then MODE is not viewable in the MENU. Simply Turn off the STAMINA Switch and restart your H4n (Turn H4n OFF then ON again)

My zoom h4 will not turn on at all....not with new batteries or the AC adapter.....any suggestions? Worked fine last time used.

I encounter this error with my 16 gb SD card and Zoom H4n.
I try to format the card inside and outside fo the Zoom, use 8 gb and 32 gb instead of 16gb card and, but get the same error.

But I find a solution.

1. I format my SD card inside Zoom with builtin utility. (Menu - SD Card - Format)
2. I reinstall Zoom firmware
(instruction and download here: http://www.zoom.co.jp/products/h4n/software/ )
3. I format SD card inside Zoom again.

I took a several test and didn't get a "Card Full" error.
