Contact Sansui or purchase the schematic, I don't think your going to find anyone with the information you need on here as if it has a vertical out IC its a really old set.

Check and replace the vertical scan output IC. Check related capacitors, and solder terminals at the vertical scan output section circuit for any loose soldering. What is the model number to your Sansui TV?

The vertical output IC will have a number printed on it. You mus send this number to get a new one. Normally, all vertical ICs are available from local electronic spare part selling shops. It is not a difficult to get component. Won't cost more too.

Pl look at the IC and search in Google. Mostly Philips, Panosonic made IC would have been used. Check the complete no., printed on the IC.

that is usaually a component in side the board called a capacitor that bursts due to high voltages passing thru it. so u will need a technician to replace it for you at a cost

The short answer would be yes. A more detailed answer can follow if you can update this with the model number. If you are getting just a hum without any other sound, the problem may be a poor connection inside the set. It is possible that the audio amplifier IC has failed as well. You can narrow this down a bit by connecting the audio output form the back of the set to a receiver. If the sound from that is OK, then the problem is likely to be the audio amp. This Ic generally costs around $20 or so.
