Dell Dimension 3000, splashed liquid from canned air, mobo fried?

Dell Dimension 3000, Mobo E210882 (0TC667?) Pentium 4 I installed a new cpu heatsink and fan. New DVD burner also. I think a little liquid from the canned air splashed the Mobo whilst I was blowing away all the accumulated dust. After connecting all back together, it will not power up. Press the button, no movement, not a sound. No lights on the back panel. Nothing. PSU seems to be working fine. I jumpered the "power on" leads on the 20 pin and the PSU fan and other attached fans run smooth. I jumpered the leads on the Mobo Control Panel Connector, and nothing. That's not the problem. Replaced CMOS battery also. One small green light is still lit on the Mobo, just to the left of the Control Panel Connector. Other than that, no signs of life. I have no diagnostic equipment. Have I checked as far as I can? Is my Mobo likely done for? Can I transfer my CPU and RAM to an exact replacement Mobo? Will my Dell Reinstallation CD give me trouble? Does it require that particular model Mobo, or is any replacement OK?
So many questions, so little experience. I'd love some feedback. Thanks a bunch.

The spray on the MB should not be a problem - unless it was plugged in when you did it. Yes, you should be able to put in a new Dell motherboard. As long as the processor is of the same class, the Dell license should work fine. However, you may need to download new drivers for the machine to run.

If you really want to check the power supply, I would suggest you buy a tester. They are fairly cheap: $10-50. You want to be sure that your board is getting the right power at the right places. 12 V to the fan is fine. However, 3.3 v or 1.5 v?

It sounds like you have done a fairly good test of the motherboard. I've definitely seen bad Dell motherboards with the light on with/without a bad power supply.

If you have another case (an ATX), I would buy an Asus or other motherboard and put your equipment in it. The cost of a Dell motherboard is excessive. Of course, you will have license problems with XP.

Testimonial: "I switched a PSU from a friend and Mobo still dead. I'll definitely get a tester for future use though. Thanks also for the advice on replacing the Mobo. :)"

If both motherboards are LGA775 socket, then the next concern is whether or not the case is capable of having the new motherboard installed into it. Disconnect all power cables to all dv drives or cd drives and hard drives. Disconnect all ribbons from drives to the mother board. If you can get to all of the screws that hold the motherboard into the case, you get away without removing drives. Once you've got the motherboard then you can disconnect the power cable from the motherboard. Remove the memory chips, disconnect the sound cable from the old motherboard. install the memory chips onto the new mobo, Connect the power cable to the new mobo, then install the new mobo into the case. Replace the ribbons from the drives to the mobo, replace the power cables to the drives and reinstall the sound cable to the cd or dv drive. You should be done now.

My mother board is fried

I am not sure what you are asking, but if your mobo is gone, you will need a new one to turn on the computer. The good news is whatever is on your hard drive will not be lost. The bad news is that if your mobo is fried, so is your processor. Check your processor to make sure there are no pins missing or any burn type marks on it. If this is too much for you to do, I suggest taking it to a computer store or buying a new mobo and install it yourself. It is very easy to do. They can range from $100 + for a mobo and then a processor is seperate and depending on the one you need, it may be cheap. Hope this helps. Cheers.

How to ID CPU compatibility?

You should try to find the manual of your mobo. Search the manufagurer website for the same model number. It usually lists all compatible CPUs.

Socket 478 is for Intel Pentium 4, Intel Celeron, Celeron D and Pentium 4 Extreme. But that doesn't mean your motherboard supports them all. You should still check the manual.

New processor needed

Hi, For Dimension 3000 system here are your options. Pentium IV 3.2 GHz 533 / 800 MHz FSB Pentium IV 3.0 GHZ 533 / 800 MHz FSB Pentium IV 2.8 GHz 533 / 800 MHz FSB but what i'm worried about is the socket where the process goes into. for thermal issues it is expected for the socket to CHIP CREEP. Chip creep refers to the problem of chips that, over time, would work their way out of the socket. Chip creep occurred due to thermal expansion; the contracting and expanding during system heat up and cool down. you might end up replacing the mobo as well.
