Blurry images on a Coolpix 5700?

Hello
I have a real problem with my Nikon Coolpix 5700. I used to have a 5000 and it gave good serviceable, pretty sharply focussed pictures.
But even on Fine and 3/2, pictures taken with my replacement Coolpix 5700 (when viewed at 1:1) are decidedly lacking in detail in the focussed area and blurry round the edges! - the pics themselves are not grainy, they are taken outside in good natural light with a tripod and are 'still life'. I have heard there is a fault with these which Nikon does a repair for - but is this what it is? If so, what is the fault?
Many thanks in advance for your advice!
B
ps. I am thinking of buying a refurbished Coolpix P4, in addition - will I get better, sharper pictures from that, do you think?

Nikon Coolpix 5700 Digital Camera Problem

I believe this is the issue that Nikon is repairing at their expense. You can find the advisory on the Nikon website. Here is some of the text from that advisory:

It has come to our attention that in a limited number of COOLPIX 3100, 3500, 4500, 5000, 5400, 5700 and SQ digital cameras, an electronic component may, in some instances, fail affecting your camera's performance and/or operability.

While only a limited number of COOLPIX 3100, 3500, 4500, 5000, 5400, 5700 and SQ digital cameras are affected by this advisory, if your camera presents symptoms that can include (1) images with a strong color tint, (2) images that are totally black and/or (3) images with visible defects, Nikon will, upon confirmation that the problem is associated to this Service Advisory, service your camera free of charge.

To obtain complimentary service for cameras affected by this advisory, please click the link below to download and print the Service Return Form. The Service Return Form provides detailed return instructions.

The Frequently Asked Questions button at the bottom of this page offers more information about this advisory and, should you have more questions, also provides information about how to contact Nikon.

We apologize for any inconvenience you may experience.

BTW, I sent my E5700 to Nikon a couple of years ago -- for this same problem. They repaired and cleaned my camera -- and had it back in my hands within 7 days.

I hope this helps!
Regards,
CharlieJ

Coolpix 4300 needs driver & update for vista

this solution was originally written by a fellow expert dauphine

You can download PictureProject software from this address: http://chsv-soft.nikon-image.com/jpn/software/win/S-P2____-175WU-JPNJP.exe

That is the only Nikon software that supports Vista since your camera is "outdated".

Here is a quote from Nikon site:

  • We had released a Windows Vista-compatible version of PictureProject, v1.7.5, for use with the models listed below, and all models that followed. PTP (models supporting the PTP protocol) and Mass storage USB transfer options can be used for camera connection. However, the camera's transfer button can not be used to transfer pictures over a PTP connection. Set the USB transfer option to Mass storage to enable the camera's transfer button.
Currently, the new Nikon Transfer and View NX will replace Picture Project as our new Image Transfer and Browser applications. These applications support the same Nikon products as Picture Project.

Use a card reader or card slot to transfer images.

Overexposure

CoolPix 5700's have a common image sensor failure. Check with Nikon for recalls, this may be the cause of your issue. Alternatively the shutter may be stuck open, causing too much light to reach the sensor and causing over exposure as well as lines across the image. David Millier Advance Camera Repair
