Archos not booting up - coming on

I think the USB cable is defect, or one of the connectors, on the tablet, computer or even on the cable. First try a new cable and check if nothing is in any of the connectors, like dust or other debris.

Check to make sure that the FireWire or USB cables are
correctly attached and firmly seated in both the drive and
computer's FireWire or USB ports. Disconnect them, wait 30
seconds, and reconnect them. If the drive is still not
recognized, restart your computer and try again. If they are
correctly connected and your drive still does not power on,
trying using the optional power sharing cable, described in
section 2.3 Connecting the Optional Power Supply of the LaCie Mobile Hard Drive User Manual.

it is dead easy. just get a paperclip and open one side of it, now look on the side of the 97 there is small hole between the USB port and the flash sd card, insert the paperclip end an hold until the system resets itself.
All will come back to life after pressing the power button..
No data wil be lost, I have done it lots of times.

On an Archos, battery is fully charge when the CHG LED light is flashing, while that light is ON all the time, the unit is still charging.

Now, in order to charge your Archos you must leave it on Suspended mode, by holding the Power button for about 4-5 seconds until it says "Suspending", DO NOT leave it on completely "Shutdown" mode, or your battery will never charge, and you are also risking the life of your battery by doing so.

So in other words:

1) On a PC via USB it should take around 8 hours to charge, while connected to an Archos mini dock, battery dock, or DVR Station, it should take around 3 hours to fully charge.

2) Leave your unit completely "Shutdown" (hold the Power button and wait 10 secs. or so until it says "Shutting down" and let it go off.

3) Connect it to your power source, either USB on computer, or external charging device as mentioned above, it will come back on, the two LED lights CHG and Power will come on, leave it like that, and after a few minutes the unit will go into Standby/Suspended mode by itself, and there is when you are charging your battery the right way.

3) Wait 8 hours if connected to your PC, or 3 hours if connected to an external power supply (as described above). If still after being in suspended mode (not completely off) your CHG light isn't blinking after the 8 hours on PC, 3 hours on external power supply, then suspect your battery is defective.

In that case, if the unit is still under warranty contact Archos, if it is out of warranty. If it isn't under warranty, you can buy a replacement battery on eBay and either replace it yourself, or find someone with the technical skill to do it for you.

just pressing the reset button is not enough.


Try this:


1. To reset the player, gently insert a thin object into the Reset hole located below the power switch.

2. Press and hold the Play/Pause button while powering on your player.

3. When the player displays the Creative logo, release the Play button.


Depending on the model you can also use following procedure:
1. Remove the battery.

2. Move and hold the Power button to the Power On position and re-insert the battery to the Zen Vision. Hold the Power button until the Recovery Mode appears.

Before you hook up to usb go into tools/settings/storage & see if your archos is set for pc hard drive mode which turns the unit into a external hard drive. That should fix it,Make sure you have a copy of the latest firmware downloaded onto your desktop from the Archos website before you try formatting or recovery functions. if that doesn't you might have to do a repair or format. You can try these functions in Customer assistance function in the tools/settings/customer assistance, but I have much better luck doing a hard reset. Sometimes the unit gets a glitch in it & you have to do a hard reset.
Turn on the power when the Archos screen comes on which has the Archos logo on it Immediately hold down the volume + button until the recovery page comes up

There is little documentation regarding the reset. However there is one in the Archos 504. If you take the battery off and look at the connecting Pins of the battery of the main unit. You will see a small Gold Button (looks like the circuit). This is the main reset button. If you Press it all will be good. You will not loose anything unless you have a Main File corrept but at least you will get function back so you can fix the firm ware.

Generally the syptoms sound like the motherboard on your laptop has died or on board power regulator. There are however a few more things you can try before going to a new laptop or claiming warranty if you can.
1. Have you tried reseating the hard drive? You will need to locate your hard drive and unplug it (There will be a few things you will need to unscrew, but generally no more than 3 screws) then try and power on.
2. do you have any other USB devices attached? if so unplug and try again.
3. When you plug in your powersupply, does a amber light show. If not, your laptop is dead and chances are it's going to be cheaper to get a new one, as laptops for most home users that surf the web and do a bit of word processing are fairly cheap.
4. If none of these work, dounble check your warranty on the laptop, most come with a 1 year hardware warranty, but you may have a 3 year one, so it's worth a check.

Leave it to charge for 2 hours just in case there isn't enough power for it to boot up properly until it has an initial charge.

try resetting it via the button under the battery cover next to the hard drive, and if not, connect it to your pc, and format it as quick as poss.
