You should only use a breaker that is listed for use with your panel. Use of a breaker that is not either listed or classified for use in the panel is a code violation. Check the breaker to see if it will fit your panel (probably not) Murry is now Siemens I believe, and Cuttler Hammer is Eaton. There was a Murry-Cuttler Hammer-Challenger connection for awhile, but just because it fits doesn't mean it's ok.

I have a electrical problem in my 200 AMP murray braker box.It was put in around 1975.It looks like the 200 AMP main breaker is arcing. When the fridge starts the lights go dim..Will another braker work?

The best answer I can give is a new breaker might solve the problem. If the arcing has not damaged the bus bars where the main breaker is connected. Be sure to check to see that all connections are tightened properly. If you are using aluminum wire be sure to use a deoxidizing compound. Tighten the aluminum connections, wait a while, and recheck tightness.
Hope this helps.

Bought a Eaton Cutler Hammer Arc Fault 15 amp Single Pole circuit breaker for my old CH20 model Cutler Hammer CB Box (vintage about mid 1960s). CB package says "Use in Type CH" boxes. It...

I used to run into that being a service electrician all the time Smains! These problems can involve a little more legwork to figure out than some. The best advice that I can give you is, if at that age you can still find a part number on the breaker panel (they renamed them load centers to sound fancy lmao), if you can actually fine a legible one. Write it down and go to Eaton's website, then to load center. They have a parts number search that should take you right to your PANEL lol, and all the specs. I'm not there or if do it for you, hope this helps!!!

Cutler Hammer 20 Arc Fault breaker for bedroom outlets will not reset after activating test switch.

The circuit breaker must be turned to the "off" position first from the middle position, and then to the "on" position. The cutler hammer arc breakers carry a lifetime warranty so if it will not reset you may want to contact the manufacture.

Our circuit breakers keep tripping. The house is only 12 months old and our electrician says the builder installed Cutler Hammer Combination type AFCI is the problem. Is there a problem with these being...

They can be defective, but usually not. It is usually something that is plugged in that will not operate on the arc fault circuit. Brush type motors are bad as they are actually arcing at times. Unplug all devices, and try to find the culprit. These are for your safety, and once you find the problem devices you should be fine.

I have a question

Sounds like the breakers are mis-wired. This is a common mistake with those kind of breakers. The white wire that is permanently attached to the breaker (usually coiled) connects to the neutral bar in the panel. Look closely on the breaker, you will see two terminals. The white (circuit) wire that goes out to load connects ONLY to the neutral terminal _on_ the breaker itself, _not_ to the neutral bar in the panel.

The arc fault breaker must be made for the panel. Use of a breaker (any type of breaker) that is not either listed or classified for use in the panel is a code violation. Yes there are some differences between manufacturers. Compare specs. Make sure you installed the new breakers correctly, or they won't work at all anyway. Just because a breaker fits doesn't mean it's the right one for the panel.
