Do you think that the radio can be modified to receive am in Canada?

  • doberdog Apr 04, 2008

    Thanks,

I like this unit because it looks like the original radio in my car but I have to decide if I can live without am radio. The Bluetooth and Ipod connection are really a great idea. Does Becker make the same radio for the NA market?

  • doberdog Apr 04, 2008

Thanks for all your help, I might still get it....very frustrating that it is the unit I want but can't use am!!

I've used this radio for years.  It's a direct replacement for Porsche cars up to about 1998.  Installation is easy and make sure to get the iPod connection cable.  It's an assessory.
About AM yes there's the 9kHz vs 10KHz, but frankly here in LA it gets better AM reception than the JBL in my new Prius.  The only problem is you can't buy it in NA.  Getting it from the EU is a pain.  But it's worth it

For FM radio, the head unit should work fine. For AM stations, though, I don't think it'll work. While the 7990 does receive Long Wave, Medium Wave, and Short Wave AM, it will only tune Medium Wave (used in North America) at 9kHz increments instead of the 10kHz increments used in North America.

The medium wave AM stations in Canada are all on 10kHz increments. The only stations you could receive would be those with a frequency that happens to "cross paths" with the 9kHz increments of your head unit. From what I can tell from the owner's manual, there is no way to change the MW tuning from 9kHz to 10kHz.

It appears the only products Becker sells in NA are GPS navigation units. No car audio products at all.

Pyle PBMSPG190 can't scan fm stations

If you're having trouble scanning FM radio stations on your Pyle PBMSPG190, there are a few things you can try:

- Check your antenna: Make sure your FM antenna is properly connected to your radio and is positioned in a location with good reception. If your antenna is damaged, you may need to replace it.
- Check the FM frequency range: Make sure that the FM frequency range of your radio is set correctly for your location. In some cases, FM frequencies may differ depending on your country or region.
- Check for interference: Electronic devices such as smartphones, tablets, or other nearby radios may cause interference with your radio's ability to pick up FM stations. Try turning off nearby electronics or moving your radio to a different location to see if this improves reception.
- Manually tune to specific frequencies: If the automatic scan is not working, try manually tuning your radio to specific FM frequencies to see if you can pick up any stations.

If none of these steps work, it's possible that there may be a problem with the radio's internal components. In that case, you may want to contact Pyle customer support for further assistance.

How to change tuner to pick up all frequence's eg: goes from 95.5 to 95.7 how do i get it to change to 95.6 thanks jason

It will only tune into odd numbered stations because US radio station only broadcast in odd number stations (ex 95.5,95.7,96.3). You can change the area. Area 1 is North America, Area 2 is other areas. Press "Menu"->"Setup"->"Tuner"->"Tuner Area", then select 1 or 2. After setting, press and hold "Menu" for at least 2 seconds. This may give you the frequency you are looking for.

Been given an AH300 with tuner and cd player. However I am in Canada and the unit came from the UK. Will any 240 to 120 plug adaptor do? Will be tuner be compatible here in Canada? Thank you Mike

Yes to the first question. In the UK, they use the same power ratings, just different plugs (went there for my brother's wedding. Had to buy an adapter for my cell phone charger).

As for the tuner, they run on different frequency intervals there, but you should be able to pick up a few stations, since European and North American frequency intervals overlap at numerous points.

If you want to pick up all of the stations, check to see if this unit has an aux in, and run just a tuner head into this unit.

Hope that helps!

Pioneer premier deh-500ub presetting stations

Storing the strongest broadcast
frequencies
BSM (best stations memory) lets you automatically
store the six strongest broadcast frequencies.
1 Use MULTI-CONTROL to select BSM in
the function menu.
2 Press MULTI-CONTROL to turn BSM on.
The six strongest broadcast frequencies are
stored in the order of their signal strength.
# To cancel, press MULTI-CONTROL again.
Tuning in strong signals
Local seek tuning lets you tune in only those
radio stations with sufficiently strong signals
for good reception.
% Press LOCAL repeatedly to select the
desired setting.
FM: OFF—LEVEL1—LEVEL2—LEVEL3—
LEVEL4
MW/LW: OFF—LEVEL1—LEVEL2
The LEVEL4 setting allows reception of only
the strongest stations, while lower settings let
you receive progressively weaker stations.

You can also perform this operation in the menu
that appears by using MULTI-CONTROL.
Selecting alternative frequencies
When the tuner cannot get a good reception,
the unit automatically searches for a different
station in the same network.
1 Use MULTI-CONTROL to select AF in the
function menu.
2 Press MULTI-CONTROL to turn AF on.
# To turn off, press MULTI-CONTROL again.

! Only RDS stations are tuned in during seek
tuning or BSM when AF is on.
! When you recall a preset station, the tuner
may update the preset station with a new frequency
from the station’s AF list. No preset
number appears on the display if the RDS
data for the station received differs from that
of the originally stored station.
! During AF search, sound may be temporarily
interrupted.
! AF can be turned on or off independently for
each FM band.

Converting built in infinity radio tuner to get european stations

Hi Barak, I have not seen an easy adjustment on any car stereo for converting the frequencies. The Crossfire stereo is manufactured by Becker. Try Becker of North America in Upper Saddle River NJ.

USA - EUrope FM band stations frequency differences

I have a car stereo purchased from the US and I can’t pick up all radio stations in Europe/UK, what can I do?
If you have purchased a car stereo from the US you will find that it will not pick up many European radio stations. This is due to the fact that US radio frequency steps are different to here in Europe.
You may be able to set the tuner to European stations by following this procedure.
Press and hold down the SRC button to power down the unit completely.
While the unit is off press button 1 & 5 together, while momentarily pressing the SRC button.
If this does not work try the following proceedure;
Press and hold buttons 1 and 5 together, while momentarily pressing the reset button.
If this does not work then the unit is not designed to pick up European frequency steps.

Very weird Radio Tuning Problem

This is a USA model and by default in the USA all FM stations end in an Odd number. This is completely normal. you can try holding preset 1 and 5 down while pressing the reset button on the unit and it may allow you to switch to a Europe style of tuning.
