I just put the Barbie idesign Ultimate Stylist disc in my Mac. When I click on it to run it I get an error message that says "there is no default application specified to open document "barbie(r) idesign(tm) Ultimate Stylist (tm).msi". Any advice?

Very hard to get CD Rom as discontinued by mattel in 2009
found a few web sites proclaiming to have a download but require the dwonloading of a smart downloader which I cannot guarantee would be virus free and safe and would result in getting the software .

you may google it and have better luck at finding a downloadable version than I had or are willing to risk installing a downloader program which I was not willing to try or risk.
Try restarting your PC once the software has been installed.
I bought one of these for my daughter for Christmas. I didn't bother installing the software that came with the player. Windows Media Player automatically recognised the device allowing me to transfer music to it.
Try updating your graphics drivers from the internet for your video card. Since the minimum requirements for this game is a 32 MB video card, your video card should work just fine. Attempt to update the graphics drivers from ATI's website. Also verify that you have direct x compatable sound card, which is also required for this game.
Double clicking on the icon and getting an hour glass only was what I encountered this morning. You need to go out and buy a graphic card. I got 128 mb for $50 installed at the store on the spot. I can now load the program. BUT I currently cannot get the fashion cards to register onto the computer. Mattel is sending me a new "swipper".
That sounds reasonable. Programs do strange things when they can't display the correct graphics. For example: Portal wouldn't run on my computer because my graphics card was not able to use DirectX 9.0.
The recommended minimum sysytem requirement for the video card is 32MB. When I upgraded my video card to 128MB the problem of the yellow screen is gone and the program works well, problem solved.
Not sure if this will help as my cards would scan but I was having problems with the game shutting down when we tried to "photograph" her outfits, fashions not transfering to other sections of the game and not saving the cards we had scanned. I'm running windows xp on a new computer and had to change my daughters user account to administrator (from limited). The game is now working brilliantly and is everything it promised to be. Still it's very frustration that I had to spend 3 hours today solving this myself instead of reading a simple 1 liner on the Mattel website FAQ's!!!
First thing to check is to make sure your computer is compatible with the system requirements of the Barbie Girl. This sounds as if the Barbie Girl program is very old and you are using it on a very new computer. I've had this happen to me on vista with old windows 95 programs. Check your system requirements for that software, if it was designed for windows 95 it might not work. There might be a way to get it working in a compatibility mode which I can help you with, but first make sure your sys reqs are good. What version of windows?
