Hoover F7431-900 steam vac brushes wont work

If the brushes will to spin when you try to turn them by hand remove them from the machine. If the brushes spin ok after removing them the the turbine assembly is seized up and will likely need replaced. If the brushes won't spin when they are removed from machine take the plastic cover off the brushes and clean out the gears.

Either the pin on the brushes that attaches to the motor shaft is broken, or the motor is dead. Did you check the switch on the front of the unit to make sure it wasn't turned off?

The scrub brushes won't spin on my Hoover F5915-900.

The primary problem is that the turbine is seized. One way to verify this is to try to manually move the brushes by hand (with it off, unplugged). If not then your problem is with the turbine. This usually requires professional service. I would recommend to take it to a trusted vac shop which is familiar with these cleaners. or go to the hoover web site to locate a hoover dealer near you.

I have the SteamVac Dual and there's a screen on the underside of the unit. It's beneath the brushes and it's red. You have to pull and wiggle it to get it out. With the machine unplugged, lay the unit with the handle on the floor. In the owner's manual ( http://www.hoover.com/pdfs/manuals/F7222900.pdf ) this is shown on page 10 figure 3-2. Clean that screen.
If they still won't spin, then take the brushes out. Again, with the unit on the floor, you simply grab the unit firmly and pull towards you. It's much easier to remove than the screen. I took the brush unit outside and blasted it with the house. You'll have to pull out whatever fur balls are clogging it but eventually you'll see that the brushes spin freely with the water squirting on them. Plug the brush unit back in and - in my case - they started spinning.

I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure.
This also happened to my own Hoover Steam Vac and there was a broken part that connected to the brush assm that I had to replace, it has been a while but once they replaced the part everything worked just fine and it was not that expensive and I am still using the vacuum still to date and it is working just fine. I believe it was something like the switch for the brushes on/off switch or the part was part of the handle assm. Check you owner’s manual for the exploded view on the vacuum or also check with your local vac dealer. I can not seem to get the attachment for the upholstery cleaner to operate what am i doing wrong????

The attachment works on the suction from the Hoover Steam Vac and it’s either a straight suction tool or a revolving brush, check the front of the machine to see if the is a switch to turn on and odd, also before you attach the upholstery tool check the end of the hose for suction, it may be that your upholstery tool may be clogged or the brushes are not spinning and a part may be broken. Feel free to check with you local vac dealer or a new or a good used part if you find out what is wrong. This happens when the filter on the inside of the lid for the dirty water tank is pushed all of the way up. You need to leave a 1/4 in. gap from the top to the top of the filter.
