My IBM T30 Think pad lap-top is stuck in power save mode.The battery is still charging fine,but the whole screen is black with no image when i turn it on.However when i switch it on,all the leds light up then only the power one stays green and the battery light flashes orange.We plugged it into another screen which said it was in power-save mode and to take it off from the PC.However I'm unsure how to do this. Any help would be greatly appreciated.Thanks.

Is it charged? Make sure the charger is connected and actually giving the laptop power then push the power button only once and make sure it is only once

You normally need a compatible Power Supply plugged into the Laptop from the mains. Without this the battery will go flat. If you do not have one a good place to look is Ebay, or the like simply put in the model name of your laptop and the words Power Supply.
EG: IBM ThinkPad T30 Power Supply.

I had the same issue. Here's what I did. Not sure if it will work for you. But give it a try.
1) turn on the machine and press "F2" to go into set up.
2) Press alt-p seven times to go to the last page.
3)Press the down arrow to highlight HDD password. Set a password as instructed and reboot the machine.
4) You can remove this password later once your machine starts fine.

Even if you didn't get try this too.


1. Make bootable CD which contains Norton Ghost or other disk image software
2. Boot your system using bootable CD with Norton Ghost software, u can use Hiren's CD ISO image. If u don't know about hiren just google it.

2. Once you boot up , open Norton Ghost click LOCAL-> PARTITION->FROM IMAGE

3. Now "look in" for "[DellRestore]FAT drive" and select this drive (this is recovery partition)

4. Now go to "IMG" folder and select FI.GHO file

5. Click Open and there you go... Process started

The half moon usually means the computer is in SLEEP MODE. Normally, pressing the spacebar will wake the computer up but I have noticed that sometimes, the computer can get "stuck" in sleep mode. If that is the case, you can hold the power button down (until the power turns off and the moon disappears). Wait a few seconds then hit the power button again to turn the laptop back on.

In your case,

the most simplest way to shut down your laptop is to override your processing by simply holding down the shutdown button until your computer turns off (do this when all your work is saved and the "Windows is shutting down" mode is on your screen).

This idea is not recommended but will always work.

This is a common problem with the T20 & T30 series Thinkpads. The problem is with the power management chip on the motherboard. The pm chip regulates & controls the power input & usage, allows the machine to switch from AC to battery, and controls the charging. Unfortunately, you will have to replace the motherboard in order to fix it.

Sounds like the RAM or the CPU has come loose. Was it dropped or banged around (like at an airport)?

Try to clear first cmos settings and if it wont work soo u have a problem with VGA OR MOTHERBORARD
