Big screen sony tv goes green after 15 minutes. I am pretty handy taking things apart and know how to solder so if I need to get dirt I can. Any good positive solutions would be very thankful. Thank You

As I stated before the set is prone to bad picture tubes----the way to correct for this is not hard---go to a unused video input---you better have just the Input 1 etc to be seen on the screen--if screen is for example slightly green with diagonal trace lines: You need to remove entire front grill below the front screen---usually secured by 2 or 3 screws on each side on the rear---a few have 2 hidden screws at bottom on front behind round pop out pieces. Pull down and out to remove the grill and tilt it to the left on its side---several wires there that are secured with twist ties---end up with grill left side down. Remove the inspection plate behind it. You will see a small square black block with 6 controls embedded in it---look close---three left to right are marked focus---do not touch those. The remaining row is marked screen--now the tricky part--locate the r,g,or blue screen control for the color that is excessive---I suggest using a plastic tool here so you do not stick your hands inside the opening as with set on dangerous voltages are there--with set on and on that video input lower the correct screen control until the unused input is just black with only the input label (video 1 etc) can be seen----we are talking about a very slight adjustment.

This model is prone to this problem--bad picture tubes.

I have a way for you to attempt to adjust around it.

here is what you need to do:

You will have to remove the entire large plastic grill/plate on the front of the set beneath the screen.

It will be secured in one of two ways= some have two slightly hidden screws on the front near the bottom (one on either side) with a little snap out plate that covers them=if this then you pop out the covers and remove the screws; the entire front will pull out from the bottom and has hooks that engage at the top, pull out from bottom and let the hooks come clear.

The other version has up to six screws on the back (some on each side) and removing them will allow removal of the entire grill.

Note that their is a control panel attached that does not need to be removed; some of the wires are extra long and dressed= you can loosen them enough to turn the grill so the left side is facing down and to the left.

Behind the grill in the middle is an fiberboard inspection plate. Remove it and look inside.

Allmost dead center you will see a two and a half inch square black block with two rows of controls.

You need to look very carefully as one row left to right will be Focus(don't touch those).

The second row will be SCREEN and Green will be the middle one(you should be able to see r,g,b next to each control but they can be hard to read as the entire block is black).

The idea here is to try to turn the green screen down. Best way to do this is with the set on a blank video input take a look at the screen= all you should see is the input number and if you see some green or a faint curved green line turn the green screen slowly to the left until it JUST vanishs.

Since you have to do this with the set on be careful not to touch anything else except the plastic control!

The set will shut down if any of the three picture tubes does this as it detects too much current is being drawn.

Let me know if you have Questions before you attempt it.

KVM27FV15 won't turn on and just blink on the standby light. What is wrong with it and can still be fix or end up on the dump? I'm pretty handy on things and did soldering before.

Resolder the FBT,that the flyback transformer. The big black block of plastic with a red wire with black cap hook to the CRT(tv tube).Replaced the transistor outside of the solid steel wall of the FBT,that transistor help the FBT have stable high voltage.

I have a green screen and shuts down after only about a minute

This model had a lot of problems with bad picture tubes--it has a red, green and blue picture tube--only now available on a rebuild basis.

There is something you can try if you are only a little bit handy--a do it yourself thing that involves no replacement of parts---

If set comes on and screen goes bright green and shuts off--it is shutdown circuit-detects too much current is being drawn and protects set.

I am able to post instructions here for you to try something simple that may let the set work again for a period of time.

Let me know if you want the instructions and I will post them here for you.

If this information has helped you rate this solution as I do this here for free.

Sony KP-51WS510

you need a green CRT thats whay you have the white kind of concave lines with the green screen. You can try adjusting the green screen control but you need anew CRT ( tube) the speaker cover has two plastic plugs that get removed on the lower edge os the grille which covers the two screws that hold the grille on. If you need more assistancr or where to get a green CRT let me know as I have a link that has some green and red Tubes for your model.

Unless you know how to solder and where to solder you need to take your set to a repair shop ,however if you do know both of these things to do solder around Flyback Transfomer pins.

Green arcs from bottom up with darkest one at bottom on dark screens

there is a way to get rid of the lines, you need to enter a code from your remote to access a hidden menu. From there you can adjust the lasers in the tv(green lines)I beleive it is very sensitive though, if done wrong can reck the tv. Not sure of the code or directions on how to exactly adjust the lasers, actually looking for them my self. Hope i was some help though!
