The most common reasons are thus
1) You do not have the right PORT and BAUD set
Consult the manual for the software.
2) You are noit in a location where the sky is visible to the unit)
move outside and away from buildings or electrical items
3) Your battery power is too low to get a fix

4) nThe SIIRF chip is damaged

Tomtom one XL

hi, it can take up to 15min to find the gps signal for the first time, also make sure you outside and away from any tall building then just wait and you should find it will come on.

it usually takes about 5min to find signal but the first time it can take up to 15min to find the signal.

you could also go through the menus on the tomtom and find the menu that says gps and click on this and see if it has found any signals from what i can remember it needs to pick up 3 satalites before it starts working properly.

Let me know how you get on or if you need further assistance ok

Can't get a satalite signal for tomtom XL

This can happen on rare occasions in very built up areas. Most certainly it can happen indoors.

Using tom tom home from your computer plug your device in and tell it to update. most can now accept the gpsquick fix which will allow tom toms to pick up sats a little quicker

Satalite Signal?

Have you tried resetting the unit? Have you done a master reset? If not, try these. Just be aware, a Master Reset will ERASE ALL YOUR FAVORITES.

Can't get position fix

Check to see if the date and the start point location where you are located are properly set. The GPS needs close enough location and date to know where it is starting from.

Read the instructions about the initial setup.
