My camera is brand new, a Sanyo 7.1 MP, and the power will not come on when pressed. I have put three sets of very good batteries in it and it won't come on again until I put another fresh set of batteries in it. I've only used it on about 5 pictures.
If you got a warranty with the camera, you can use it even though it was a gift.If you got a warranty with the camera, you can use it even though it was a gift.

If this camera takes ordinary batteries you may have inserted them the wrong way around. If it takes a rechargeable pack recharge it for average time recommended and try again.
Unfortunately, this is not unusual with rechargeable batteries. The best thing you can do with a rechargeable battery is to fully and completely discharge it, and then recharge it fully. After that, there's nothing else you can do except buy a new battery. You can get brand new, unbranded ones on eBay for a fraction of branded ones, and they work great. Just buy from a seller with a good reputation, and you can't lose. I usually buy multiples and never run out of battery power this way.
Make sure the battery is good or else put the battery for charging .Now make sure the terminals are good and clean.
If there is no reponse of life when the power button is pressed, then the fault is within.
Only if familiar with micro electronics and armed with good presision tools must your try and open as the chances of a repair are also quite low. If there is a break of the power line, a line fuse or a faulty link, it canbe rectified but if the control board has to be changed you might need help of spares from Sanyo.
Make sure your charger is working, and good. You have to measure the output with a volt-meter. Next, make sure the battery terminals inside the battery are clean, sometimes they oxidize or get dirty. If none of that works, the unit will have to be troubleshot...power switch, electronic boards, etc. That can cost more than the cost of a replacement camera, so get an estimate before you repair it. There are some good brand 10.2 mp cameras on sale these days for $69...can't beat that!
Find a new supply of "Duracell Ultra with M3 Technology" batteries and give them a try. The flashing red light is usually an indication that the batteries you have in the unit are not producing sufficient power to run the camera. Rechargable batteries are should have a rating of 2500mAh or above in order to provide enough power to maintain the draw from the camera.
The USB cord does NOT charge this camera, you have to take the battery OUT and place in in the charger that comes with the camera. If you do not have a charger, you can buy one on-line for about $20.00
i had the same problem, but i found out that i had put the battery badly wen charging,so ensure yo battery is input properly,i hope tis is the solution to yo problem, chao
sounds like a battery power problem or problem with the terminal of the camera ; you know the point where the battery meets the camera.
I would recommend a service center
A temporary fix to power up is to press the menu and power button at
the same time. When the lens is extended and it beeps, on my camera ,
the lens is *stuck* Give it a gentle tug , then try the power button
again
