Is there a specific PCI USB 2.0 Card for the Proliant DL380 Server. This server has USB 1.0 ports on the mother board and we need the 2.0 speed.

HP Compaq ProLiant DL380 G2 Server won't boot from cdrom

Hello, I think you might find more information on starting up the DL380 G2 at the link shown below:
http://h20566.www2.hpe.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docId=emr_na-c00972124

Also, the replacement instructions, in case it needs to be replaced, (and relevant troubleshooting info) for the 5i controller are found in the link here :http://h20566.www2.hpe.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?sp4ts.oid=316587&docLocale=en_US&docId=emr_na-c00688182

Please first make sure that you are using the proper startup boot disk for the server before entering the CD ROM option from the boot menu. Also, check the front panel of the SCSI drives for any errors or blinking LEDS that correspond to an error code. You can run a diagnostics CD/DVD that arrived with the manufacturer's pack to detect any raid issues on startup.

If you are still facing difficulties with booting up the server, you can find a video for replacement of the appropriate scsi drive here if you are still facing any issues of your scsi drive. Try a different hard disk or check the relevant diagnostics to verify whether is the controller or the drive that complicates the booting of the server

For more details check the scsi manual in the link below (section "FBWC LEDs" , pages 15-17).

Server with external HDD

The Maximum internal storage for a G2 is 880.8 GB (6 x 146.8 GB Ultra320 1") so that's quite a bit more than you thought, Not sure about the USB 3.0 since the HP only has USB 1.1 and it's a PIII 1.4 GHz processor which will be your bottle neck in the end.
You can definitely give it a try, but I would suggest to look at ebay where you often can find a newer model for very little money and often they are stacked with hard drives already.

The PCI slots are only 64-bit, so don't expect a miracle, even with USB 3.0

The ProLiant ML110 server with System BIOS Version 16 supports a total of eight IPL devices. Four IPL devices, such as the IDE controller and the floppy controller, are integrated, leaving support for four additional PCI IPL devices (i.e., PCI card plugged into PCI expansion slots); however, the ProLiant ML110 has five PCI expansion slots. Therefore, it is possible to configure the ProLiant ML110 with five PCI IPL devices (such as SCSI controllers or NICs) and exceed the limitation of System BIOS Version 16
The resolution to the problem is to update the System BIOS Version 17 which supports a total of nine IPL devices and five PCI IPL devices. Update the ProLiant ML110 server to System BIOS Version 17
i could not include the url for the download because you did not especify the generation of your server
but follow this link
1.select your server with the corresponding generation
2. select the operating system
3. from the download list select the bios update to a bootable usb or diskete
4.install the os

How do i boot a compaq proliant dl380 with a usb drive set up for booting?

Hello,

Make sure you have turned on the USB Boot in the BIOS of the os. Once this is done, select the order you would like for the server to locate boot files. (Hard Drive, USB, CD/DVD, etc.) Once complete, insert the USB and reboot the server.

I have a HP Proliant ML110 G3 server that will not produce a video display output. I'm plugged into the onboard graghics slot. There are two slots for add on graghics cards, 1 - PCI-E x4 and 1 - PCI-E x16,...

Hello,

Do you have any other PCI cards connected to the server board? If so, make sure they are seated fully in the slot. If they are, try removing all of them and try your server again. A lot of time bad PCI or faulty seated PCI cards will cause your system not to display an image. If you remove the cards and still no video, you may have a bad video port - try a known good PCI video card for testing. If this does not work, you will need a new server board.

No display on DL380 g4

This can be caused by a processor / VRM issue or even a system board fail. Try dropping to a single proc and VRM and swap test with the others.

Yes, just make sure the card is compatible whichever flavor(s) of slots you have available and is supported by your OS.

I can´t use a serial ata disk in a proliant 350

I know ATA disks are cheaper , but they don't last as long or are less reliable.

I do not recommend mixing SCSI and ATA .

Use one or the other , not both.

Do not try , unless your server is non critical.
If it is non critical , why bother with server , a PC will do as well.

Thanks
David
