Make sure that the keyboard and mouse wires are plugged in the appropriate ports, if it still won't work, try switching keyboard and mouse. If it still will not work I would call the factory and try to have it shipped back because it could be blown ports.

I hope this helps some.

On the bottom, it shows <esc=boot menu> <f1=setup> <f10=system recovery> but it doesn't respond to anything or move from this screen

Check that your keyboard is connected, and is working properly.
Try your keyboard on a different computer.
Try a different keyboard on your computer.

The 'ESC' key should always work.
The 'F1' key should always work.
If your disk-drive is *NOT* "dead", then the 'F10' key should work.

If neither 'ESC' nor 'F1' work, you have a serious problem with the motherboard.

I went to replace the memory on my compaq presario x1000 laptop and when I opened the back panel for the memory, I only see one chip. How do I get to the other chip to replace it?

Remove the 2 screws under the laptop that are marked keyboard. There are 4 clips across the top of the keyboard. Slide these toward the bottom of the keyboard and remove the keyboard. You can now access the second socket.

When yo upower up press F! or F2 or "del" key to enter in bios then check your harddisk is detected? if your harddisk is sata then enable sata option in bios then save settings.
If every thing is fine then it should be dispaly resolution issue.

Stuck on Compaq Screen and keyboard dead

I would take the cover off and reseat the memory, video card, and processor. Make sure your fan(s) are working too, and blow any dust out of it if you see a lot of build up.

Voice mail does not respond to commands from auto dialer screen

i found this on another forum... hopefully it's the answer we are looking for.

Re: Bug with Phone virtual number pad
I've found the answer to this problem!

Part of the problem is that the screen blacks out shortly after a call is connected.
When that happened I pressed the green phone button to get the keyboard back.

This keyboard image is a dummy. It visually responds to your touch but does not send the signal.

After you dial and your call is connected look at the bottom of the screen and you'll see that the normal menu tab changes and appears with the number 5 and letters jkl on it.

Pull it up with your finger. THIS is the keypad you must use when within a call to send number signals. I tested it and confirmed that it works.

If you have pulled up the dummy keyboard by pressing the green call button from within a call then simply hit the BACK button to see the real keypad tab.

If the screen has gone black and you need to light it up again then you can press BACK, HOME, or MENU to see the real keypad tab -- press anything BUT the green call button (which will give you the dummy keypad).

This dummy keypad is a true design flaw but knowing how to get to the functional one makes it an annoyance not a hindrance to using the phone.

Special keyboard keys not working.

You need install or reinstall the driver software that came with the computer this keyboard was supplied with. Windows itself doesn't know what those keys do.

If you are still using that computer and you haven't erased the original factory software, the drivers should be in a directory somewhere on the hard drive. Compaq usually has a folder called "compaq" on the root (that is, it should be c:\compaq) and a folder in that called "drivers". This isn't always true, but the drivers you need should be in a similar folder somewhere.

If you don't have the drivers on the disk, you can download them from the HP/Compaq website, but you'll have to have the computer model number.
