I have a pentax optio m20 digital camera and I want to put some of the pictures from the camera onto my windows xp computer . This is not a new coputer I think it is 2000 xp. I did it before but I can't remember how to now. the instructions on the camera say to connect the cord to the camera; select menu; setting menu; usb connection; pc; ok. Then plug into computer and then what??
Consider NOT connecting your camera to your computer.
The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.
Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program such as Picasa.

Press the photo review button (the rectangular one with the blue arrow) and then press mode. Arrow over to "image/sound copy," press ok, and you'll be good to go.

Maybe.
But it does seem to be a lens problem. Possibly the lens is out of sync as mentioned in another post here.If there is a grinding, the lens is probably damaged by dirt or sand.
Make sure the batteries or battery is fully charged.

generaly it is very hard to find camera parts like this, if you can try to pick up a cheap second hand one on ebay if you can, but then it might be better to get a new one!
