HP DVD740b OK I did all that before. What I think it is is the software. My sonic dvd burner software will not upload.

  • ronmary89408 Apr 02, 2008

OK now the software issue is resloved......thank you.........BUT the problem where it says "there is no media inserted in the selected device" is back...."please insert recordable media"

Well its in there! Now maybe its the DVD's I have.....I have DVD-R and DVD+R types........my drive is DVD +- RW.....what am I doing wrong! this is killing me

  • weezerneek Oct 23, 2008

Yep, same problem here. I had problems with the DVD740 that came with the system after a couple of years. I purchased a new one and now have the same problem: drive does not "see" that any media is installed. There has been the rare times when a pre-recorded DVD movie will be detected and will play. Odd. Forget recording, my drive doesn't even know media is inserted.

Ok , try these alternative solutions

CD Burner XP (Freeware)

CloneCD (Trial Version)

also what are you trying to burn ?

eg. If you're trying to burn a DVD movie you may find that some have copy protection on them and will fail to burn.

Try DVD Shrink

goodluck trying this.

Thanks

The only difference Between DVD+R and DVD-R is that DVD+R media has slightly less space then DVD-R, but your DVD burner is also compatible with both.

There are two possible solutions here:

    Solution 1.

If the DVD Drive is connected on the same ribbon cable as the Harddrive , the Hard Drive should be set to Master on the Jumper settings and the DVD Drive set To Slave otherwise if it's on a seperate cable it should be connected at the end of the cable and set to master. If you do / have done this can you see the devices in BIOS ?

    Solution 2.

There could be a registry corruption with on of your burning applications, especially if nero is installed this can happend sometimes. So uninstall every single CD / DVD burning application that you have installed on your machine then uninstall the DVD drive (again sorry) and Reboot TWICE , now reinstall one of the applications that you would like to use , i reccomened sticking with the application that is now working for you.

    Hopefully this helps. :)

if not there is a process that you can take to FLash your DVD Drives firmware to 840 Model from the 740 model you now have as some problems are evident with the 740 DVD Drive , but doing that process could potentially viod warrenty and the possiblity to get a refund on your current drive if you wanted to exchange it for a different model.

Feel free to ask me more

    Thanks!

Can't get rid of the Sonic Activation Message that appears on Dell computers "The feature you are trying to use is on a CD-ROM or other removable disk that is not available. Insert the 'Sonic Activation...

Sonic is typically a cd burner software. look for any CD utilities running down by the clock and right click on the icon to exit them. Maybe look for a sonic or CD/DVD software package that would have come on a disk with your computer , insert it and re-install the package, that may do it for you. If the nag is tooo annoying, for the interim look in your start menu under startup and delete anything in there that is in relation to sonic or cd writing software. Hope that helps you. Cheers

HP dvd740b does not detect blank CDs and DVDs

Hi,

i think you,ve hit the nail-on-the-head.
The laser has to power up highrer to write a DVD, or ocassionally have a dual laser. 1 for read/write CD. And 1 For Read/Write DVD.
Certain cd roms, only use CD- media. it,s probably worth checking which media is supported by the drive.
Also check the drives aren,t conflicting, on the same ide channel, sometimes swapping channels, ide primary/secondary can help, or swiitching Master/Slave/cable select jumpers on the drives Themselves.

Drive does read audio cd but not dvd.writer also can't burn any.

If you have Roxio or Sonic installed, sometimes the configuration will get corrupt.

Uninstall all application software that relates to any CD/DVD burning, and try the following:

Download the following FREE burner....it is the best burning software I have ever used and it is FREE!
ALWAYS set the burn speed very LOW....4X for CD's and 2X for DVDS and you will never go back to the other burners again!
The BEST options for using InfraRecorder is to burn data discs, burn Disc images and to create Disc images.
I trashed Roxio and Sonic because they are too memory dependent and they contradict each other's configuration...

My dvd burner doesn't burn dvds

You need to check that with blank DVD's you are using compatible with your drive.Because the DVD's may work with your extranal drive but not with your builting drive. If this doen't slove the problem I would recommend using a different burning software other than "sonic record now" and "vista o/s Built-in dvd burner".

Lightscribe CD Burner

try and reinstall the sonic program if you have it. it sounds like the computer did not have the sonic software on it when you bought it, so it would have been removed when you restored your computer.
