Ok , try these alternative solutions
CD Burner XP (Freeware)
CloneCD (Trial Version)
also what are you trying to burn ?
eg. If you're trying to burn a DVD movie you may find that some have copy protection on them and will fail to burn.
Try DVD Shrink
goodluck trying this.
Thanks
The only difference Between DVD+R and DVD-R is that DVD+R media has slightly less space then DVD-R, but your DVD burner is also compatible with both.
There are two possible solutions here:
Solution 1.
If the DVD Drive is connected on the same ribbon cable as the Harddrive , the Hard Drive should be set to Master on the Jumper settings and the DVD Drive set To Slave otherwise if it's on a seperate cable it should be connected at the end of the cable and set to master. If you do / have done this can you see the devices in BIOS ?
Solution 2.
There could be a registry corruption with on of your burning applications, especially if nero is installed this can happend sometimes. So uninstall every single CD / DVD burning application that you have installed on your machine then uninstall the DVD drive (again sorry) and Reboot TWICE , now reinstall one of the applications that you would like to use , i reccomened sticking with the application that is now working for you.
Hopefully this helps. :)
if not there is a process that you can take to FLash your DVD Drives firmware to 840 Model from the 740 model you now have as some problems are evident with the 740 DVD Drive , but doing that process could potentially viod warrenty and the possiblity to get a refund on your current drive if you wanted to exchange it for a different model.

Thanks!

OK now the software issue is resloved......thank you.........BUT the problem where it says "there is no media inserted in the selected device" is back...."please insert recordable media"
Well its in there! Now maybe its the DVD's I have.....I have DVD-R and DVD+R types........my drive is DVD +- RW.....what am I doing wrong! this is killing me
Yep, same problem here. I had problems with the DVD740 that came with the system after a couple of years. I purchased a new one and now have the same problem: drive does not "see" that any media is installed. There has been the rare times when a pre-recorded DVD movie will be detected and will play. Odd. Forget recording, my drive doesn't even know media is inserted.
