Canon PIXMA MP450 "Servic Error 5100"

Whenever I turn my printer on, I get a "service error code 5100" on my printer's LCD screen. This happens after about 1-2 minutes after the printer is powered on, everytime. Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this?

Thanks in advance.

when the error 5100 came the first time, I cleaned it using the menu for cleaning and it worked. Now the error 5100 came back. I'll try these solutions.

If you have nothing obstructing, the problem is the print head positioning. Mine is the Pixma MP 450, the solution I found was to push the cartridge assembly to the right to fully fit into the housing (where are the two foams) and then turn on ... started working again.
Ps: If not fit in the right position, give the error.

Try this... it worked on my MP450... Turn the printer on and open the lid, it shows the cartridges. Now let the cartridges settle to the left. You can notice that the cartridges run on a metal belt. It might be dirty, mine showed a black stripe on it. Take a cloth, a cleenex will be fine and clean it up. Move the cartridges to the right (force them with your hand) and clean the part of the belt left behind them. Now turn it off, close it up and turn it back on. It should work

What is error message 5100 for this printer?

Code 5100 refers to a carriage that is not freely moving from side to side. Look to the far left and right for anything that would impede the carriage path.

Also, it is possible that the clear plastic encoder strip just behind the carriage path has become smudged with (most often) grease. You can clean the strip with a cotton swab dibbed in alcohol.

I hope this helps!

Error 5100 on MP450

It sounds like the fine cartridge movement is being restricted.
Clear the paper jam or foreign object that is preventing the FINE Cartridge Holder from moving, cancel printing from your computer, then turn OFF the machine and turn it back ON again.

I have a PIXMA MP450 printer and error code 5100 displays on the LCD. What do I need to do?

error code 5100 means it cannot recognize the follwing UO51 cartridge.
A lot of the time the cartridges need to be re-set. for this :--

Remove both cartridges, turn off the printer for a few seconds. Then, restart your printer and wait for it to warm-up. When it's finished warming up and you see the error code for missing ink cartridges, open the printer and insert both of them and close the printer.

That might take care of it because the restarting of your printer, "fakes it out" every once in a while.

Hope this helps.

Error 5100

Have you taken the printer apart? as the issue I had with our spare printer was that the home mechanics around here had taken ours apart for some reason and had not put the paper roller pin back in correctly. it was sticking out preventing the ink tank holder from moving.
