Whenever I turn my printer on, I get a "service error code 5100" on my printer's LCD screen. This happens after about 1-2 minutes after the printer is powered on, everytime. Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this?
Thanks in advance.
Try this... it worked on my MP450... Turn the printer on and open the lid, it shows the cartridges. Now let the cartridges settle to the left. You can notice that the cartridges run on a metal belt. It might be dirty, mine showed a black stripe on it. Take a cloth, a cleenex will be fine and clean it up. Move the cartridges to the right (force them with your hand) and clean the part of the belt left behind them. Now turn it off, close it up and turn it back on. It should work
Try clean thin pastic belt behind printhead - be carefull, no solvent - only moist clout, excuse horrible eng.
Error code 5100 keeps displaying on printer screen
Here's what Canon's site says:
Issue: ERROR LCD: Error Code 5100
1.
Press ON/OFF switch to reset the multifunction device
2.
Remove Packing Material MP150 / MP170 / MP450
3.
Reseat ink cartridge (MP150 / MP170 / MP450)
4.
The MP450 may require repair
Hope that fixed ya...

my printer show eror code 6500.What is it for problem?
erro 5100
I GOT THIS PROBLEM FOR THE 1ST TIME AND NOW CANNOT PRINT ANYMORE. SEEMS THAT THE PRINTING CARRIAGE CANNOT FIND THE CORRECT POSITION. NOTHING IN WAY.
same problem, error code 5100.
when the error 5100 came the first time, I cleaned it using the menu for cleaning and it worked. Now the error 5100 came back. I'll try these solutions.
If you have nothing obstructing, the problem is the print head positioning. Mine is the Pixma MP 450, the solution I found was to push the cartridge assembly to the right to fully fit into the housing (where are the two foams) and then turn on ... started working again.
Ps: If not fit in the right position, give the error.
