Can not get my adsl modem to connect through ASUS wireless router

I have a Dynalink RTA-1320 ADSL modem and have just purchased an ASUS WL-520GC wireless router to extend internet to all wireless PC's in our house.

The manual sasy the modem is to go in the WAN port in the back, however, doing this does not allow access to the internet. If I were to plug the cable from the modem into the LAN port of the router, it works. Even though this works, I want it to work through the WAN port. Are there settings on either or that can be adjusted to ensure this works (without comprimising wireless netwrok security)?

Thanks for the suggestion.  But it doesn't solve the problem.  Is there any other way?

It could be the modem and the router has the same ip address. the asus router has an ip of 192.168.1.1, check if the dynalink modem has an ip of 192.168.1.x. if so, change the router's ip to 192.168.x.x (e.g. 192.168.2.1) then see if you'll be able to connect to the internet while the modem is connected to the wan port of the router

Sitecom WL-342 Wireless Router won't access internet.

Hello,

Make sure there is a network cable going from your ADSL modem into the WAN connection of the router.

If the ADSL modem is wireless, then it is also a router in whihc case you will want to bypass the WL-342 all together.

Thanks,

Pat

Asus WL 520gu can't connect internet

1, connect your wireless router with cable to your laptop,
2. Login into your Asus-WL520gu and setup your wireless how you want it to run." do not bother with putting your username settings in there"
3. In your Asus-WL-520gu after setting up your wireless turn the DHCP off in it.
4. Now connect the cable that you have connected to your laptop to your router instead of your laptop.
""You should now be able to connect to the wireless with your settings. and connect anything ells you want to the other 4 ports on the back of you wireless router"" note: do not connect anything to the WAN port as it is used for DSL modems; and not Routers with ADSL modem.
when connecting a router to a router - the one that is connecting you to the internet needs DHCP turned on because it is the one that will be giving you IPs and Gateway settings - the other router such as wireless router after setting it up needs its DHCP turned off - other wise you will have 2 routers trying to do the same thing with ip's and gateways. And you should never connect a modem router to the WAN port as it is a modem router and NOT just a DSL-modem. The WAN port is intended for DSL-modems only. Not only consumers but also many technicians make that mistake

Cannot connect to internet

Make the Ip address similary to the router, example 192.168.1.25 should work.
SUbnet mask will then fill in automaticaly, just leave it
then Default gateway will be the routers IP. 192.168.1.1
the dns server would be the ip of your internet provider. I would leave it blank at first, see if it will work then. If not, then ask your service provider for it. If they give u a number, then you will have to go into the router properties, and change the dns and stuff like that in there aswell.
good luck

Install prob

I suspect these devices by default may be set to either the same IP address or exist on the same subnet. If you know how to configure the devices you can check. Possibly you can connect a computer to each (when not router and modem are not connected to each other) and issue use the open the DOS or command prompt type ipconfig and press enter to get the default gateway address for each device and report the contents back here. Otherwise you may need someone to lead you through those checks and reconfigure the devices as appropriate.

As a new owner of a wireless router you may also want to consider this as you are installing it.
