What brand of wireless modem you have, what os are you using?did you switch on the wireless in your laptop? sometimes we overlook the most simple things, it happens to me..
ok, you have to configure your laptop to connect to your wireless modem, how? just connect first your laptop with wire to the wireless modem, does it work? if it does work you can take the default gateway ip add from your pc by typing IPCONFIG on the command prompt , then type it in your internet explorer address bar.

example default gateway..... 192.168.1.254

and supply the username and password, you can now configure your wireless connection wep/wpa configuration.

Having trouble activing the wireless application
There should be a switch on the front of the laptop, on the edge. It should be a switch that is two-directional. There will be some pictures, one with a computer, and one with a computer with some waves coming out from it. Switch the switch to the side of the computer with the waves, and you will activate wireless internet. Follow the on-screen directions and you will receive the internet.

If this does not work, contact your internet supplier or find an internet supplier.

I cannot share my home laptop with my work laptop on my home wireless connection. Virgin advise that there is something wrong with the wireless adapter on my home Toshiba laptop.
If you are able to access the Internet on this computer - then there is likely no problem with the adapter. More likely is that the networking is not configured properly.

NO Wireless on Toshiba Satellite
attach your wireless router with modem then turn on the pc .. there is a pin whole at back of wireless router pin it in it would reset all of your setting . than go to internet explorer address bar type the IP 192.168.1.1 ususaly and the passward would be admin as well as user name .. then set the setting according to your requirment with out opposing IP ..than first turn of every thing computer modem router
then after 20 min first switch on the wireless router then modem and then your computer .. you will get connected through wireless router..

i am having the same problem and its not software related as i have my laptop dual booting with sabayon 5.0 and im getting the same result in that OS so this tells me that the hardware is failing
