Each Touchbad should have basic functionality by default in every Operating system, letting it be used even when no driver is installed. However, try pressing FN and F7 together and see if the touchpad works again. Some people accidently press this FN + F7 key when they mute the sound with the FN + F8 key.
The FN + F7 is there to disable/enable the touchpad as some people use a USB mouse instead of the touchpad.
If you still need the drivers, here are the download links. Please choose desired driver by Operating system and Touchpad brand...

If it is a new Laptop then I'll not suggest you to open it for cleaning because you'll void the warranty period. You can check for the latest touch pad driver and update it once. it may help you.
hello, i have a suggestion for this kind of problem. Try to do a power drain. First you have to power off the computer, remove the battery and ac adapter and anything that is plugged on to your computer. Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds. Put the battery back and the ac adapter, try to power it on and test it. If still doesnt work try to uninstall and re install the driver for your mousepad. Hope this helps! goodluck!!!
From what you are descrbing the mousepad has been locked up
Normally for Acer's the key to unlock is fn+F7 or F5 however if these 2 dont work the picture your looking for ontop of the F key is a small rectangle with a arrow/finger pointing to it
Try installing / reinstalling your touch-pad drivers.
Go to this site, Choose your laptop make & model ("Notebook" ==> "Aspire" ==> "Aspire 5500")
Once done, select your windows from the "Operating System" drop-down menu. Then download the Synaptics Touchpad driver in the scroll-box at the bottom.
the acer has a driver and software restore program on your desktop, I suggest you re install the driver for the mouse pad, you may have to use an external usb mouse to do it. try that
yes if you reinstalled windows, the wrong drivers may be in use any way.
Download the touchpad driver first and install from link below, then go to my computer>right click>properties>hardware tab>device manager>mice and pointing devices and click on the '+' sign and it will show your touchpad, right click on it and select uninstall.
Do the same with the keyboard on the '+' sign again in the same hardware list, then restart your laptop and the items will be re installed and the drivers assigned automatically.
There is no specific keyboard driver only a generic one so you have to hope that the touchpad was having some sort of conflict.
