Microsft Vista doesn't support 4990 negaives scanning

I had to replace my computer and the new one came with Vista. I'm slowing reinstalling my old applications including Photoshop but have not been able to scan negatives using my Epson 4990 nor my Epson RX-500's scanner. I'm using the recommended drivers and reflective documents scan just fine. However no negatives can be scanned. I'm in the middle of archiving over 500 4x5 negatives and can't proceed without this working. can not get a print driver to work on vista for this item

No, it is not need to apgrade, it will be good to reinstall your windows system, on it you can install Windows 7 32bit too, /if you have driver pack for windows7/, if no, reinstall vista 32bit, no problem, will be right, After it if your cd\dvd drive will not work, you can change only it.

Your computer going slow could be for the following reasons: 1 Not enough RAM - remove unwanted files by cleaning the disc. Also defragment the computer. Increase the RAM 2 Virus - remove the virus 3 If you do the above you will see the improvement and no need to have a new cpu

Check the manufacturer's web-site -- surely, they have a version which *DOES* work as a "native" application under Windows XP and Windows VIsta and Windows 7, i.e., no need for "compatibility settings".

Need a document feeder for 4990 scanner
I don't believe it is possible to add a paper feed to this scanner. The only hopper fed scanner of which I'm aware is the Kodak s1220.

Windows XP SP2 Slow printer driver response
hey,

Well, maybe you already have tryed this: uninstall all printer drivers, and reinstalled xp sp2? Or other updates for your operating system.

Also check you system ressouces: RAM usage, cpu usage

On my new vista computer, system is a little slow in general , so if you run vista on a old computer, that might be the problem.

Microsft Vista doesn't support 4990 negaives scanning
try using a third party scanning solution EPSON is known not to keep up their drivers so many third party solutions have popped up. I like one called vuescan http://www.hamrick.com/ it works for MAC and PC and is not very expensive

Scanner wont scan transparencies properly
I have the same problem with my 4990. This began when I moved to a new computer running Vista. I've updated all drivers to the latest version including Epson Scan for Vista but the only thing the 4990 "sees" is reflective documents. Negatives are not recognized at all. I know this is probably a different problem from what you are having but the effect is the same.

Film option is ghosted
try to reseat (unplug and replug the TPU cable at the back of scanner, and open epson scan go to professional mode and click on configuration button, go to OTHER tab and press reset all then restart computer and try if film is an option to select.
