You don't need to use Olympus batteries. The D-395 uses two standard AA batteries, either disposables or alkalines. You should be able to find AA batteries at just about any department store, drugstore, electronics store, office-supply store, or supermarket.
Try to take off battery for soft reset. When disconnected the usb camerafrom pc, follow the procedure like a external device, turn off the device and take off the connection.
Either use the lead and software which came with your camera to download the photos to your pc or remove the card,put it in slot in your pc and download the photos. Or you can open the card up as an external drive via "my computer" and copy the photos off onto your pc. Its safest to copy and paste them,check they are ok and last of all,delete them from your memory card. If you "cut and paste" them and anything goes wrong,they are lost.

The battery life on alkaline batteries vary according to manufacturer and power rating. Alkaline Batteries can provide up to 100 shots with typical usage. The Olympus CR-V3 long-life lithium batteries (LB-01) will provide approximately 500 shots. The Olympus Ni-MH batteries (B-01 4PE) would provide approximately 250 shots per charge and they can be recharged 300 to 500 times.

I hook up to my laptop and when I try to download photos nothing happens.
