I agree with Rick, it could be several things. It's not something a person can just start loosening screws and trying to line things up, you can do more harm then good trying to fix it yourself without the proper tools, take it to a local dealer for service!

Your problem lies in what we call hook/needle distance. The above answers baffle even me as a Bernina tech. So I hope you got it to one of us by now. If the side cover is removed up top of the needle bar holder there is a place to make this adjustment. Loosen a screw adjust needlebar then tighten.I hesitate to expain what to loosen as you may get bigger problems. Best to have a Bernina tech do it.

There is an adjustment circular notch on your needle holder. You have simply to loosen the notch if you turn the notch right it will tight it. If you turn it left it will loosen it. You have to turn the notch left a bit while holding the needle with fingers so that it does not falls. Once the needle is loose push it up and turn the notch towards right in circular motion till it is tight.

I am not talking about the needle. I am referring to the needle bar shaft that moves up and down.

    thanks

Sorry, I forgot to mention you have to first remove the cover covering your needle upto middle of the unit. Thats first joint. Inside you will find a lever which would be on the extreme left on that mounting, just above the needle. once you drag the knob towards right that will release the needle. you have to hold the needle and drag the knob towards right and then push the needle up and then push it to extreme left for locking the needle. My first solution was for an older machine.

Hi,

Thanks for using Fixya.

Possible reasons/solution :-
1) Needle is inserted incorrectly

2) Needle clamp screw is loose

3) Bent needle being used

4) Upper or lower threading is not correct

5) Upper thread tension is set too tight/high

6) Needle and/or thread for fabric being sewn is not correct

7) Material pulled and/or moved excessively during sewing

8) Incorrect spool cap

9) Wrong combination Needle/Thread/Material used

10) Wrong presser foot being used for application

11) Bobbin Case (Inner Rotary Hook) not inserted correctly
Good Luck and have anice day

Refer to your manual for maintenance and clean the machine as indicated. A sensor may be blocked by lint.

If this continues, the machine will need to be serviced by an authorized Bernina repair tech.

It sews straight st well but when sewing zig zag it sews on the right but when needle goes down on the left it dont pick up the bobbin thread. Also every now and again it switches off

The fact that it picks up on one side and not on the other is due to the timing. A pro will have to do this for you.
If the switch is going off this could be a: The needle is hitting the hook (part of the bobbin area). b: Motor overheating due to the belt out of alignment. c: A short somewhere in the circuit.
In all likelihood there is not serious problems except the timing which could cause all of the problems.
You should go to a pro to insure all of the problems are eliminated.

Threading for twin needle how to thread artista 180 bernina

Hi you should have a plastic piece in your tool kit that holds the second spool of thread. It clips on behind the existing thread stand

then thread as normal with one thread on each side of the top tensions now continue to thread down to the twin needle.
the resultant look will be two straight lines on top and a zig zag look on the bottom
hope that helps

Why doesn't my machine stop when the thread breaks?

More information needed. Needles don't break by themselves in embroidery mode. What are you sewing? What is your application?

How do you use the needle threading device

To the left of the top of the needle there is a little lever. Make sure the needle is all the way up by turning the wheel. Pull the lever down and a hook will go throught the eye of the needle. Place the thead across the hook and release the lever. You should have a loop of thread coming out the back side of the needle. Pull the loop and your needle is threaded.

I must be threading my bernina artista 80 wrong it does not sew. I have rethreaded it a lot of times. what am I doing wrong now

Check to ensure that the needle is inserted with the flat side to the back.

Always thread the machine with the take-up lever in the highest position.

Consult the manual for exact threading instructions.

Broke a needle

Best scenario is that the needle hit deflected and hit the hook that the bobbin snaps on to. When needles hit hooks they can leave a mark or burr that the thread will catch on when it comes around. Take out the hook and run your fingernail over the edge from the point back. If you find a burr get some crocus paper (very, very fine sanding paper and polish the burr off.
Next would be that your machine is knocked out of timing meaning a trech will have to reset it.
