SOURCE: Please tell me how to

    Hello,

The filter status display will help you know when to change your
water filter. When the display reads 10%, order a new filter. It is
recommended that you replace the filter when the display reads 10% OR when water flow to your water dispenser or ice maker decreases.

The filter should be replaced at least every 6 months depending on your water quality and usage.

    Step 2
Press the eject button to release the filter from the base grille.

    Step 3
    Pull the filter straight out.

    Step 4

Turn the cap counterclockwise to remove it from the filter. IMPORTANT: Do not discard the cap. It is part of your refrigerator. Keep the cap to use with the replacement filter.

    Step 5
Align the ridge on the cap with the arrow on the new filter and
turn the cap until it snaps into place.

    Step 6
Remove the protective covers from the O-rings. Be sure the O-rings are still in place after the covers are removed.

    Step 7
Push the filter into the base grille. The eject button will pop back out when the filter is fully engaged.

    Step 8
Flush the water system. Use a sturdy cup or glass. Depress and hold the
water dispenser lever for 5 seconds, then release it for 5 seconds. Repeat this process until water begins to flow. Once water begins to flow, continue depressing and releasing the dispenser lever. Hold down for 5 seconds and then release for 5 seconds. Do this on/off process for about 2 minutes. This will flush air from the filter and water dispensing system.

Filter light will not turn off

Resetting your Refrigerator filter indicator light after changing your water filter

Some people are not aware that after you change your refrigerator water filter, there are two more steps that should be taken to complete the water filter change process.

    Step 1:
Reset your water filter indicator light - Most new refrigerators come equiped with an indicator light that notifies you when it is time to change your water filter. This light does not automatically reset when you change your water filter. Here is a list of refrigerator manufacturers and how to reset the indicator light.

GE General Electric Refrigerators - Press and Hold the Reset Button for around 8 Seconds.

    Step 2:
Flush a couple of gallons of water through your new filter. Since most refrigerator water filters are made of carbon, some carbon residue is present in the first gallon or two of water. This will leave a bitter taste and residue in your water. If you continue to have these problems after flushing a couple of gallons through the filter, it is possible that you have a defective water filter.

I've got a side by side Whirlpool refridgerator. The Water Filter status light is not indicating. What could be the problem and solution?

There are several pages that explain dispenser programming. This is on page 10 of the owners manual.

Water Filter Status Light (on some models)

The water filter status light will help you know when to change

your water filter. When the water filter status display changes from

"GOOD" to "ORDER," this tells you that it is almost time to

change the water filter cartridge. Replace the water filter cartridge

when the water filter status display changes to "REPLACE." If

water flow to your water dispenser or ice maker decreases

noticeably, change the filter sooner. The filter should be replaced

at least every 6 months depending on your water quality and

    usage.

After changing the water filter, reset the status light by pressing

and holding the FILTER button for 3 seconds. The status light will
change from "REPLACE" to "GOOD" when the system is reset.

    Changing the Water Filter

    1. Press the eject button to release the filter from the base grille.

    2. Pull the filter straight out.

    3. Turn the cap counterclockwise to remove it from the filter.

IMPORTANT: Do not discard the cap. It is part of your

refrigerator. Keep the cap to use with the replacement filter.

    4. Align the ridge on the cap with the arrow on the new filter and

turn the cap until it snaps into place.

NOTE: You can run the dispenser without a filter. Your water

will not be filtered. Simply insert the cap all of the way into the

base grille and rotate the cap until it is firmly in place.

    5. Remove the covers from the O-rings. Be sure the O-rings are

still in place after the covers are removed.

    6. Push the filter into the base grille. The eject button will pop

back out when the filter is fully engaged.
    7. Flush the water system. See "Water and Ice Dispensers."

    Water Filter Status Light:

The water filter status light will help you know when to change your water filter.

When the dispenser control panel's water filter status display changes to "ORDER," this tells

you that it is almost time to change the water filter cartridge.

Replace the water filter cartridge when the water filter status display changes to "REPLACE."

The filter should be replaced at least every 6 months depending on your water quality and usage.

NOTE: If water flow to your water dispenser or ice maker decreases noticeably, change the

filter sooner. After changing the water filter, reset the status light.

    Details:

Pressing and holding RESET FILTER starts the 3 seconds countdown. Using the dispenser

cancels the countdown AND no dispensing is permitted. The number '3' blinks 3 times and the

'invalid' tone sounds 3 times and user has to release both the pad and the button and press

the button again to start it over

After 3 seconds, the BLUE WATER BARS in the Icon flash and an audible tone sounds 3
times. When the system is reset, the "ORDER" and "REPLACE" icons will disappear from the

    display screen. See figure 16.
Note: Users can reset the filter status at any stage.

How do I change the water filter

Removing and replacing a water filter - upper right hand corner location

Filters situated in the upper right hand corner of the refrigerator compartment of Maytag-built side-by-side refrigerators are relatively simple to replace. Follow these steps:
    • These eight inch long filters are housed in their own compartment. The base of the compartment can be released by pushing in on the release clip found at the end of the housing unit. Allow the base of the housing compartment to hang down while you remove and replace your filter.

    • Twist the spent filter to the left (counter-clockwise) and gently pull on it to remove it. There is an automatic water shut off to keep leaks and spills to a minimum.

    • Remove the new filter from its packaging. Remove the plastic wrap, and peel off the aluminum topping. Insert the new filter into the housing unit. Twist the filter to the right (clockwise) until it clicks into place. Replace the base of the filter housing by cliping it back in place.

    • Condition the filter by dispensing several glasses of water through your refrigerator. This ensures that all fine carbon particles have been removed.

    • Check the filter and the inside of the refrigerator for leaks. If you find a leak, remove and install the filter again.

    • Finally, reset the 'change filter' indicator light, if your refrigerator has one, at the front of your refrigerator. The procedure for resetting the change filter indicator light can vary from fridge to fridge. Typically, the indicator light can be reset by holding down on the 'lock' button and the 'water' button simultaneously for three seconds. Sometimes, it is the 'lock' and the 'light' button you need to press down on simultaneously for three seconds in order to reset the filter indicator light.

Removing and replacing a water filter - center ceiling location

Filters situated in the center ceiling of the refrigerator compartment of Maytag-built side-by-side refrigerators are relatively simple to replace. Follow these steps:
    • Turn the filter a quarter turn to the left, in a counter-clockwise motion. The 'unlocked' symbol on the filter will be lined up with the indicator line that is molded into the refrigerator just above the filter. Allow the ears of the cartridge to disengage from the filter holder.

    • Gently pull down on the filter, being careful to not spill any water still in the filter. Discard the used filter.

    • Remove the new filter from its packaging. Remove and discard the red plastic cap found on the top of the new filter.

    • Apply the appropriate month sticker to the filter to remind your self to remove and replace the filter in six months' time.

    • Insert the new filter into the filter opening. Line the 'unlock' symbol on the filter up with the indicator line that is molded into the refrigerator above the filter. Turn the filter a quarter turn to the right, in a clockwise motion. You will be able to feel the filter stop when it is all the way in, and the 'locked' symbol on the filter will now be lined up with the indicator line above the filter.

    • Close the refrigerator door and dispense several glasses of water through the water dispenser in the door in order to purge the new filter of any impurities. Open the refrigerator door again and check for leaks. If you find a leak, remove and replace the new filter again.
