Folks,
It appears, from reading the forums on another site, that the "fix" for ghosting is to buy a new printer (http://www.fixyourownprinter.com/forums/laser/21006#1)
Is this still the case (in 2008)? My printer is ghosting, from black only, and from the same printer page (not the previous page). It looks like I'd have to replace the drum unit (http://www.fixyourownprinter.com/forums/laser/3493#1)
I've taken two pictures of printed pages. Whats a bit confusing, is that this only happens with Black, not with the other colors. Wouldn't problems with the drum unit affect all colors.

Any thoughts would be appreciated. I'd love to fix this thing and keep it out of the landfill.

If only black does that, then it can be black toner, but the best way to find out, print something and when printer starts to take paper open front door, remove waste toner box and take out pc drum and transfer belt and check the printed page from there, if it seems ok, print nex page and open door when page comes out from fusin unit, if quality goes bad before fusing unit, it may lead to 2'nd transfer roller / pc drum and transfer belt quality was ok / if after FU then you have a problem in fusing unit.

Thank you NA,
In the intervening 3 months since I posted, I took the printer to Deens Electronics to get it fixed. They replaced the Fuser .. but the problem returned immediately. After a trip back to Deen's they cleaned out the toner that was apparrently on some of the internals. They suggested I use a lighter paper, or change the settings. Since then, I've used lighter paper and the printer appears to be okay.. after the first page.
