Find in your BIOS if you have an option that says configure SATA as IDE, AHCI and raid. Set it at IDE and try again to install the OS. After intaling do not switch back because it will not work.

*If you have access to another computer with a cd burner*

One way is to download the universal boot cd, boot a linux rescue disk image from it and use fdisk to remove all partitions.
This way the disk will be seen by windows setup again.

This is a silly bug in windows setup i've discovered a long time ago. When it does not understand the partitions on a disc it just hangs during the setup screen.

Download the iso image from http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/download.html then burn the iso image to a blank cd. Put it in your dead machine's cd drive and boot from it. Then choose one of the linux boot options.

When linux is up and running type fdisk ENTER
Then press p and a list of partitions comes up

Press d (delete) and then the number you see after /dev/hda etc.

Do this for every partition you see listed or just for
the first if there is data on the second/third/etc..

Press w (write) q (quit) and reboot with the windows cd in place.

p.s. This does irreversably remove
partitions and data on the disk!

Your question is very much clear. I understand your problem. But the technic the widnows uses to install software is not so simple that they use path and folder name for the application, actually the do alot of things to your registry too. And its not easy to modify all of them to indicate that these software is now located at this drive or location.

If you are well known with partions then do one thing:
1. Copy your all files and folder to your F drive from D drive
2. Delete all files and folder from D drive
3. Load and run partion magic.
(To Download click here or search on net)
4. Using partition magic delete the partition D
5. After deleting the partition D, resize your C partition.

After that you will get more space on your C drive.

Note: You can use partion magic to resize or delete partion without data loss.

Thanks
Iqbal

SOURCE: Hi, I have a maxtor SATA drive with my OS

The computer has to determine from which hard drive it will be booting
it cannot do so on its own
the user has to tell that to the computer through the bios
when your computer starts keep pressin F2 or delete key (acc to which you bios starts)
you will see a blue screen with lots of info on it

somewhere in there you will see a "boot " section, in there you will see hard drive priority
on that select your hard drive that has the OS as top hard drive
save and exit

there you go

I wish to upgrade my Maxtor 32049H2 HDD (20gb) to a Maxtor DiamondMax 10 6B300S0 (300gb) HDD, The KM400-M2-3.0 Motherbourd specs indicate that the HDD is compatable other than the cabling to the Newer...

The new HDD uses a SATA data interface as well as a SATA power interface. You will need a SATA cable as well as a power supply that supports the SATA power connectors. Since this is an older machine you will probably need to buy a SATA cable and a Molex to SATA power connector. This should cover any cabling issues that you are having.

Controller MSI K8N Neo4 does not work

SHUT DOWN COMPUTER AND CLEAR CMOS BY RESETTING JUMPER ON MOTHERBOARD AND THEN RETURN JUMPER TO NORMAL POSITION OR USE RESET BUTTON. UNPLUG ALL HDD SATA CONNECTORS FROM HDD. BOOT COMPUTER TO BIOS. MAKE SURE ENABLE ALL SATA IS ENABLED, PRESS F10 AND EXIT.YOU WANT TO SHUT DOWN AGAIN. NOW REATTACH SATA HDD AND CONNECTORS AND BOOT TO BIOS AGAIN. NOW HIT F10 AND LET COMPUTER RESTART AND LOAD INTO THE OS. LOGON AND CHECK DEVICE MANAGER..SHOULD BE THERE. IF NOT CHECK MOTHER BOARD WEB SITE FOR BIOS UPDATE. IF BIOS UPDATE DOESN'T DO THE TRICK, SHUT DOWN AND DISCONNECT THE IDE DRIVE, UNLESS IT CONTAINS YOUR OS. TRY BOOTING TO BIOS AND CHANGE ORDER OF 1ST BOOT OPTIONS, HIT F10 AND EXIT AND ALLOW COMPUTER TO BOOT TO OS, THEN LOGON, GO TO DEVICE MANAGER AND REMOVE IDE AND RESTART, ONLY IF THIS HDD DOES NOT CONTAIN OS. YOU SHOULD BE FINE AFTER THIS, OR INSTALL YOUR OS ON THE SATA HDD.

I am looking for a user guide for a Black Armor 320 GB Maxtor, ¿can you help?

why would you need one ? Maxtor has a jumper label
on their face that is all the info you'll need to operate
this HDD , the rest is in the OS set up NTFS or
FAT32 , stick with the NTFS and you'll have no
problems , the jumper label indicates using as a
master , Slave or a Cable select , the IDE cable
in your computer if using an ATA HDD has two
connections the top one is the master the lower
one is the slave , if the HDD is a SATA it has its
own special connection which is marked SATA

Hi, I have a maxtor SATA drive with my OS installed, I tried to install another ide maxtor drive for extra storage and now my computer will not boot from the SATA drive.

It will not boot because the new drive is been seen as the primary and not the secondary drive.

On teh new drive you will find (at teh cable connection point) a set of pins with a jumper) this jumper needs to be set so the drive is in either the slave or cable select mode and not teh master mode

Sata HDD set in primary master in Bios

Try considering these:

1. DOS disk doesn't recognize SATA, that's the truth
2. You're going to have a problem if you install OS in your computer (solution: do not select SATA in HDD type but rather IDE)
3. For your SATA HDD to become primary (boot first) try to select your SATA HDD as devic first to boot..

What new HDD will match my Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 8?

Mark,
You can use any size HDD in your computer as a slave and it does not have to be an exact match for the maxtor. You will however need the make sure that the connections on the new drive match. For example SATA drives will not attache to an IDE cable and vice versa. The drive that you mentioned is an IDE style drive so unless your MOBO has SATA connectors on it you will need to buy an IDE/EIDE drive.

Sata drivers

Had that problem myself today and got it somewhat resolved. You need to install storage controllers on your system. These can be found on the CD provided woth your motherboard or the manufacturer's website.
