This is the EXACT problem I have. I can find no solution anywhere! The funny thing is it has worked fine on two previous occasions on the same computer with the same operating system. Was easily installed the first time with no problems whatsoever (except the green light stays on continuously). It seems that whenever this stupid vista system crashes - which so far has been twice - that everything is wiped out and the only stuff that is able to be recovered are the data that loads automatically when the system gets setup. The recovery point snapshot evidently does not work either because we always lose anything we have added since the beginning. AAAAARRRRRRGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I guess the solution to this problem(s) is to save (and use) all your data on a different computer with a different operating system!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!......AAAARRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHH again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
HAVE TRIED ALL THE FOLLOWING AT LEAST 3 TIMES:
1. load and unload the webcam data (drivers, etc.), install and uninstall the program software, restart the computer,....over and over and over....
2. look for solutions such as updated drivers, software, instructions, etc. all over the internet, microsoft website, and hp website, googled it, etc.
3. pull all my hair out and scream like a banshee on my front lawn - although I really thought at first this would work, it seems it only gave my neighbors a slight chuckle - must have known I had vista.
4. did a "rain " (fix webcam - please work this time) dance under an old oak tree to appease the gods but evidently they hate microsoft as much as we do.

Green light is on mine, but USB port shows no device. When I plug it in, I get "found new device" message, but no icon on my desktop. None of my messengers recognize it either. It does show up in cameras and scanners though...I'm so confused.

Unplug your cam uninstall any current webcam software restart your computer visit the logitech website - identify your cam and click on the picture http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/405/&cl=us,en?prodcrid=405 download the installer. run the installation set up and note the options - you may not want the Logitech Chat but the Desktop icon is a must. Note - you will also need DirectX download to support your webcam - this is probably covered in the installer Connect your webcam when prompted.
down load split cam and install it from the site mentioned below run the software then connect your pc , open split cam from the progrrame, in split cam icon choose usb cam your cam shall work, http://www.giveawayoftheday.com/freeware/usb/webcam-driver
After inserting the disk try, opening the disk drive from my computer(not autoplaying) there might be more setup for the camera, just install everything inside.
if the web cam is built in to say your laptop then just click on the webcam icon (which appears on your pc screen when you first switch pc on)if your web cam was bought seperately then it should come with a disk(put disk in,click start, then run,or click start ,computer, then drive d,enter, find disk on screen, click setup.
Here is the link to the software for your web cam. All you have to do is click on which operating system you are using, then click save the file and save it to your desktop so you know where it is. Then just run the software before you plug in the web cam. During the install it will tell you when the program wants you to plug in the camera.
Don't forget to rate this a fixya when your all done, If you need more help feel free to contact me any time. I will even call and provide free phone support. Hope this Fix's Ya!
If you have the installation disk you already have the driver. You have to BACKDOOR Vista. Put the disk in the cd drive. Exit the installation then go to my computer or just computer whatever your says. Then right click on the Veo icon. Click on explorer. Then open the drivers folder. Right click and COPY the folder that says winxp on it. Paste it to the desktop. Then plug the cam into the usb port. Now manually in stall the driver. When it ask to find the driver click on browse. Then find the folder you just copied. Then click next. I have the same cam and it worked for me. Hopefully you can figure out how I did it.
