My laptop battery went dead on it while I was using it. When I charged it with the AC I turned it back on and the Toshiba emblem comes on then a screen saying: We apologize for the inconvience, but Windows did not start successfully. A recent hardware or software change might have caused this. If you computer stopped responding, restarted unexpectedly, or was automatically shut down to protect your files and folders, choose Last Known Good Configuration to revert to the most recent settings that worked. If a previous startup attempt was interupted due to a power failure or because the Power or Reset button was pressed, or you aren't sure what caused the problem, choose Start Windows Normally. Safe Mode Safe Mode with networking Safe mode with Command Prompt Last Known Good Configuration(your mose recent settings that worked) Start windows Normally Use up and down arrows keys to move the highlight to your choice.
- Now I hightlighted Start windows Normally and I got the Windows page and it look like it was loading but then it went to a dark screen. Nothing came on, none of the keys worked. And I turned it off and tried the Last Known but that did the same.
Please help I have to retrieve my pictures from it.

Is your cd drive set to bootable? If not can you get into your bios to make it so it boots from your cd drive before your hard drive? If you can and you have your original Windows cd or maybe one that did an upgrade from, you may be able to do a repair from the Win cd. If you need help if you think this is possible, give a shout. Is your cd drive set to bootable? If not can you get into your bios to make it so it boots from your cd drive before your hard drive? Hello, If the battery won't charge and the laptop won't turn on but the ac adapter works with other laptops, then the problem is the port where you plugin the ac adapter. Some of the laptops has it built in to the motherboard. So you might need to have it repaired by a technician. Or if the laptop is still in warranty, you might need to send it to the manufacturer to have it repaired or replaced. But if the laptop works without the battery, or it will turn on but the battery indicator is not lighting up, you're facing one of these problems. 1. The battery itself is dead. 2. the battery bay is loose 3. the battery itself is loose Hope this helps
That is a common problem with the Toshiba. The center pin tends to get broken off. I have had to repair them by either installing a new mother board, or removing the mother boars and soldering in a new power port.

Ifthe laptop battery is more than 3 - 4 years old then the battery could be wornout. Rechargeable batteries have a finite number of charge and discharge cyclesand will lose their charge capacity over time, i.e. won't charge to 100% andgradually the charge reduces until the battery won't charge up atall.
ORThe battery shows a 100% charge but when the adapter is disconnected thebattery drops off to zero capacity in a very short time.
Ifthe battery drops to an unacceptable charge level then the battery needs to bereplaced.

So confusing...Laptop AC Adapter nowadays has AUTOMATIC VOLTAGE, meaning it doesn't matter if it is 110v or 220v. Maybe you've got a FAULTY BATTERY. Remove the battery and plug in your AC Adapter to outlet and to your laptop and try to power-on.

The battery needs to be taken out once in a while. It is possible to use the ac adapter and power cord without the battery to power your laptop. Please press on the power button for 10 seconds for your computer to turn on. Check if you can see any message on the screen.
