OK above is some links for your user and a service manual.. use these to troubleshoot and hopefully repair your unit. This sounds like a thing called a Mode switch, inside the VCR going faulty. If you cannot sort it yourself, you need to take it to a Toshiba authorised service center and ask for a "Quote"

Magnavox ZV450MW8 shuts off when trying to rewind.

Unplug the machine and pick it up and shake it, this will tell you if something is in there that shouldn't be or that something broke off.
So many things could be wrong that it is probably not worth fixing if it is not a foreign object inside.

The VCR accepts the tape and starts to play; then stops and shuts off; when you turn the power back on the tape ejects

You have a transport problem, the mechanism the plays, FF or rewinds is not working.

Someone is going to have to open and look at the unit---as simple as a belt off or broken to the idler (rubber or geared) that doe the actual work, finding a shop that will work on a VCR unit is getting hard as most of the current techs have never seen this type of unit.

What I used to do when I opened one was have a old cassette with the tape removed! but the reels inside of it still there--tape off both sides of the cassette where it opens so the sensors on either side do not try to stop the unit from allowing this.

This way with the unit open and the dummy cassette in you can see thru its top to see if the reels are moving or not and not have the tape get in the way.

My VHS tape is stuck and won't eject or plsy

The transport mechanism ff/rewinds and drives the tape back into the cassette when eject is used.

Most likely a bad belt or the drive idler wheel (rubber or geared). Unit would have to be taken apart to "see" what is not happening.

Toshiba dvr670ku - vhs tape won't play, shuts recorder off

look to see if tape will fully load and if FF or REWIND work, if not a transport problem, drive mechanism not moving the tape, unit will sense this and shut unit off----even a problem in the loading mechanism for the VHS tape not loading the tape all the way will do the same thing.

Tape is stuck in the vcr and when you turn on the power it turns the tape about 10 seconds and then shuts off the power.

if the tape has snagged inside, the only way to get it out is to take the top of the vcr off and manually remove it. very simple procedure. only use your fingers and not anything sharp. have you tried rewinding the tape (from STOP mode) sometimes tapes can end up being wound very tight which would have the same effect. if you can rewind do so, then fast forward until tape stops, repeat this a few times this should loosen the tape.

Power problems on VCR

When a tape is inserted or ejected the machine will attempt to tighten the tape by turning the rewind hub for a second, then it watches the counter to see if the fast foward hub turned (thus the tape is tight), if the tape can not turn or the counter sensor is bad then it shuts off (a safety mode to prevent tape damage). So, you could have a bad belt, bad idler wheel, or bad sensor.

Hope that helps...
