Hi. regarding the question about replacing it with a desktop speaker, yes you could do that but if the problem is with the drivers for your audio then that would not fix the issue, because even if you change the speaker hardware but the problem is with the software then it would still output the same grounded sound. The best way to fix this is first, try to use the desktop speaker and plug it on the speaker port on your laptop and if its output is clear that means the problem is with the hardware built in speaker of your laptop but if the output sound is still grounded the you should download the latest driver for the audio of your laptop from the lenovo website or you could also call their tech support hotline at US/Canada 1-800-426-7378, Australia 1-300-880-917 and if you are still under warranty then they could just replace the speaker of your laptop. Hope that helps

My laptop fell a couple of days ago and since then there's no sound.

If it works but you get no sound, you should thank almighty that miracle happened. Most laptops never "survive" a drop..
Normally laptops have audio integrated to motherboard, so there is nothing servicable for ordinary users.
Guess your solution might be to use an external USB audio card.
Your internal speakers won't work buy you'll be able to listen through extenal speakers or a headphone

The speakers of my lenovo R61i laptop have stoopped working

Hi,

Welcome to FixYa!

What do you mean it stopped working? No sound at all?

Please try the following:

1. Please make sure the sound is not set to mute. Try to adjust the sound volume.

2. Reinstall the audio driver. You can do this using the drivers disc that came with the computer or you can download the audio driver from the computer manufacturer's website: http://support.lenovo.com.

3. Try to connect an external speakers or headset. If you can hear sound on an external speakers or headset then the internal speakers of your laptop is already defective.

Hope that helps. Thank you for using FixYa!

Hello everyone. Im having an interesting problem with a lenovo r400 that we have at work. basically, one of my work Colleagues has been saying that she is getting no sound from the output through the...

HI There,

Below is the link to your laptop's Service Manual (HMM Hardware Maintenance Manual). The reason I copied it here is so you can have a look, if you wish, at how your laptop is assembled (and the reverse). The important point is that, unlike some other brands, yours does not have a replaceable plug-in sound card. That might have explained why no sound from the main speakers but good from the headphones because on a plug-in card the speakers plug ibto the card with a tiny ribbon cable while the headphone jack is soldered to it.

I can only conclude that your sound card is likely hardwired to the mainboard (motherboard) and that the way it feeds to the speakers is through the main power ribbon cable. It leads me to feel fairly certain that the card has partially failed.

I don't believe you have a software issue as you've done due diligence there with the drivers. If the laptop is still under warraty, I'd recommend sending it in.

Iam not reciving any sound in my laptop

try hooking an external speaker or earphones/ headset may do. if it has sound, you need to replace your internal speakers. if still no sound, might be that you need to replace your sound card. but first try updating your audio driver. drivers for your computer is readily availble at Lenovo's website at consumersupport.lenovo.com or if you are still in warranty, call Lenovo's tech support at 18774536686.
