Check the players settings for USB or MODE and reset the setting for MSC mode...
MSC mode will work out of the box with just about any MP3 player and any OS (W*ndows Linux). MTP mode will work as long as you have WMP 10 or 11 installed. Firstly, I will try to explain MSC mode and MTP mode and what they mean.
MSC stands for Mass Storage Class. When your player is in this mode, the computer will see it the same way it would see a Thumb drive or flash driveIt still displays the message: The disk is write - 2_bing.gif, as a removable disk. It will assign the first available drive letter to your device, as well as one for the memIt still displays the message: The disk is write - 2_bing.gifmg src="/uploads/images/2_bing.gif" alt="2_bing.gif" class="h_mi" /> (if it uses one and it is installed). This is probably the more popular of the 2 modes, and is a more "open source" type of standard. Mostcomputers detect the player in this mode without a problem very well and right away.
MTP stands forMedia Transfer Protocol.

Dirty lasers don't cause "protection" problems. Are you sure thay message is displayed on the CD player? That word is nowhere in its manual.

Your computer is still protected by the manufacturer's warranty,
i.e., they will repair anything (including your disk-drive) at their cost.
Take it back to where you purchased it, and file a warranty-claim.

Write protected and disk not found are the typical messages that a pc gives when you try to access a memory stick in which the actual memory chip has died. Nothing more can be done to fix it - it's dead. Junk it.

When your home theater's display reads PROTECTION, it means the home theater is over heating and the unit will shut down to prevent any damage. This can happen if the unit is stacked along with other electronic devices or the unit is in an enclosed area that prevents the unit from cooling properly.
