I agree with uninstalling and then re-instally yahoo messenger, however i think a complete installation of windows is not required, there is a section of the windows installation process that will identify the operating system in place, and gives you the option of repairing that installation first, thereby saving your files.

well, lets go back to the beginning.....what operating system, what type of anti-virus and anti-spyware programs are installed/used...after researching this, there could be a virus situation, but we shall see...so answer back with the info, and we will go from there

That is true that there is some portion of windows that need to be in place. The problem is , what application program that make YM got an issue. i also agree that repairing the installation could resolve the problem and lousir done it already. i guess if the system has no virus in it at 100% virus free, basically if you/we are the maker of the microsoft we disect and pinpoint which portion cause and error. so what is your suggestion buddy

Click the "Messenger" menu in Yahoo! Messenger and select "Connection Preferences."

2. Enable the "No network detection" option and then click the "OK" button at the bottom of the window.

3. Yahoo! Messenger will ask you if you want to sign in again with your new proxy settings. Click the "OK" button.

4. Enter your Yahoo! ID and password and click the "Sign In" button.

Messenger 10 social-view plugin error is occuring when signing on, then no other plugins will appear

Uninstall everything yahoo related from add/remove programs. Go to your C:, then Program Files and delete the yahoo folder from there also. Now go download ccleaner from www.download.com and run the cleaner, once that is done run the registry cleaner a couple times.

Try re-installing the latest yahoo from there. IF that failed also, you have one last shot that will work but it can be tedious a bit and a little dangerous so make sure to back up your files before proceeding. If the error still happens, do all of the above except for re-installing the yahoo. Now from the run command (Windows Logo Key + R), type: regedit <Hit ENTER>. Up top click on Edit and then click Find. Type: Yahoo! <Hit Enter>. Delete what it found and then press F3 to find the next yahoo! item. Delete everything it finds till there are no more matches found. Close the Regedit and reboot the pc. Now re-install the latest Yahoo Messenger and the problem is gone. I have done this several times for clients and this fixes it 100% of the time. Cheers!

I cant use my IM using linux

Sometimes the Linux OS has a fit and wont log into any of the messengers because of an internal error, Most likely is that yahoo messenger has updated and is no longer compatible with the Linux OS. Keep trying or use a different messenger, it may just be a compatibility issue with linux

You have to clean yahoo completely off your system.
1. Uninstall yahoo with add/remove programs.
2.Open registry editor, make a backup of your registry.
3. Search through the registry for yahoo and delete all yahoo entries
4. reinstall yahoo messenger
5. sign into your yahoo mail account, and change your password
