My friend has the same issue. The problem is, is it unclear what Firewall is blocking it. I have disabled all 3, motorola's, Windows vista's and his anti-virus which i think is symantec. Still won't connect. Any ideas?

Edstarrgghh you have to change the settings on your sgb900 to allow online games

you have to look at the manual on how to make your computer a de-miliatirized zone (dmz) this means your computer will bypass the firewall which will make it open to more viruses but its well worth it

after u make ur computer a dmz you should portfoward the ports that ur game needs go to portforward.com they will have guides to tell you what to do for your game look for the motorola sgb900

sorry i cant help with limewire im having the same problem

Hi

If you have recently got a new router, there would be a firewall on the router blocking the required ports for LimeWire to operate. To get around this, refer to your Router's user manual and find out how to access it and then unblock those certain ports. PLEASE NOTE: Do not attempt to unblock all the ports as this will increase the risk of getting your router and perhaps your computers infected with viruses.

If that is not your problem, you may be using and ISP (Internet Service Provider) that has blocked those ports as downloading music uses a lot of bandwidth which is a burden on them. If you have Satelite Internet, this is probably the case. You can try and resolve this by contacting your ISP and negotiating a price for them to unplock the port for you.

I am on the phone right now with my local tech support with my internet provider, what happens is that they will not allow file sharing of any kind. if you pay for it, you will be able to download everything. but when you file share or "free download" the tech department gets a history of downloads and puts a block on them.
this is how they are able to stop free downloads, and file sharing. i am now paying for rhapsody through cox cable company to download all the music i want. 15 bucks a month is not bad.
i download about 500 songs a month, and it is well worth it.

How come every time i download limewire in try to run it always say no connection.but when i ask other people they tell me to check my firewall but when i do lime wire be on the list so what should i do to...

There is many potential firewalls in the typical home that may prevent LimeWire from accessing the service.

The computer with LimeWire is the first place to check. If using Windows, there is a built in firewall with access rules. If you have a Internet Security Suite such as Norton 360, then it will need to be configured to allow access. Next is the router or firewall if you use one. The manufactured of the device will have documents on their website that explain how to configure the device for port forwarding. If this is the case make sure the ports associated with LimeWire are forwarded correctly.

After that may be the modem itself as many modems such as ones used for DSL are multipurpose devices and make use of a built in firewall & modem. Search your internet service provider for files related to access and configuration of your modem.

If all this is setup and it still does not work, your Internet Service Provider (ISP) may have blocked the ports specific to LimeWire and many other peer to peer file sharing networks (P2P) such as Bit Torrent. If the traffic is blocked by the ISP there is little that can be done.

Firewall and limewire

Dear ckclee,
Just uninstall your new limewire and restart your computer. try to re-install the old version of your "work-fine-Limewire". If it doesn't work, the only way is go to start menu, browse the accessories, carefully choose "SYSTEM RESTORE". when it runnng.. pick the date which your computer work best, the restart it, remember... windows can only restore and set back time status not more than a week, according to my experience.

Limewire wont connect

What firewalls you have, Look for yours here for instructions on how to configure it to allow both LW & Java full access: http://www.limewire.com/english/content/firewalls.shtml

Update your Java: http://www.limewire.com/english/cont...radejava.shtml

Delete the LW Preferences folder called .limewire (whilst LW is closed!) & found here: Windows NT 4.0 / 2000 / XP: C:/Documents And Settings/your_username/.limewire OR for Windows 98 / ME: "C:\My Documents"

But keep keep in mind once you delete your LW Preferences folder you will need to reset all your LW option settings so you might want to make a note of them 1st.

Limewire connection

you need to find your router address from your manual (eg. 192.167.0.1). Then type this number in Internet Explorer address bar. If you did all ok at this point you should be opening browser control panel in Internet Explorer. Go to firewall page. Set Limewire software (you may need to use full path eg. C:\program files\limewire\) as an exception in ur firewall.

cheers

Open a port for a certain program

hi mike,

this router has its own firewall, although i don't think its a good idea to turn off the firewall

google the port that limewire uses and then use portforwarding on the router.

you can start by turning off the firewall on the router to see if it works. if it does then perrhaps just allow limewire to passthrough your firewall at the router.

good luck
