My television, RCA TruFlat Model 20F420T will not turn on because the FPA button was pressed. The red light is on, and will not go off, which means it is OFF. I do not have the original remote, but have the Verizon FIOS remote, which I use with it. I have tried pressing the volume and channel + buttons simultaneously, but no luck. I have tried other combos as well. Any suggestions? Thank you very much.

Unlock procedure to many popular brand TVs are given.
FPA stands for Front Panel Lock. It makes it so kids don't push all the buttons on the front of your TV. The power button on the TV will still work and the remote will still function as normal.
The front panel lock can only be unlocked with the remote. Press Menu, then Ch+ or Ch - to select Preferences. Press Ok then use the Ch+ or Ch- buttons to highlight FPA (front panel) lock. Then use the Vol+ and Vol - buttons to select On or Off. Then press Menu repeatedly to exit the menu system. With the FPA lock disabled, you can turn it on from the front panel of the TV by pressing the Menu button. However, with the lock enabled, you can only power off the TV from the front panel.
Since the Input button is also only on the remote, if you look for a universal remote, choose one with both Menu and Input or Source functions. Then try all the RCA codes until you find one that makes all of the remote functions work. The original remote is: RCR130TA1 . A substitute remote that should match all of the functions is available here: http://remotes.com/remotes/servlet/rs?a=Search&o=c&uid=0&m=20F420T&uuid=13004957447460 .
Do you mean the 20F420T? RCA doesn't have a 20FP420T as far as I can tell.
Unfortunately, you can't turn off the Front Panel (child lock) without a remote. All of the front panel Power button to turn off the set but not to turn it on. You need a remote that matches the Menu function. Press Menu, then use the Ch+/Ch- buttons to select Preferences. Press OK then press Ch+/Ch- to highlight FPA lock. Use the Vol+/Vol- buttons to toggle the lock function on or off. (Off lets the front panel work normally) Then press Menu repeatedly to exit the menus. A substitute remote can be obtained here: http://www.remotes.com/remotes/servlet/rs?a=Search&o=c&uid=0&m=20F420T&uuid=12994577706920 . This is guaranteed to work with the 20F420T . Most universal remotes should also work as long as they were programmed after 2006.
Using the remote control hand unit that came with the TV turn on TV. Then go to the set up menu. Locate the entry for Front Panel Lock (FPL) and select no. Once you have done that exit the set up menu then on the same remote push the "input" button while watching the screen. Push button once wait a few seconds for a picture to appear, if not then push the button again, continue until you have selected the input that provides a picture. Right now you are in the Front inputs you should look for Video 1 or 2.
You will need an RCA Remote or Universal (RCA) may work. Once the Front Panel Assy. is locked the TV will only Power on with a remote. Call an Authorized RCA warranty service center, and offer to leave a deposit for the use of the remote. Power the TV on with the remote. Press Menu on remote.
