You need an application that is able to record sound from the soundcard I recommend audacity since its is free and open source. you also need a cassette player that has a line output. Connect your cassette player to the line-in audio port and set audacity to record from this device (this guide will help). It is not exactly easy but is not impossible and once you get the grip of it you will be able you use your computer as a mixing studio.

I have a Electro Brand cassette tape converter that uses Audacity; I import the music from the cassette but then can't export it to a CD as it won't accept audacity files so I need to either convert it to a MP3 or wav file but do not have the correct MP3 codes. Help
