I ran pc-doctor on my compaq presario, and when I ran a diagnostic for my hard drive,(Short Test), I received the error message HD521-2W. The program directed me to contact my administrator with this error message. I have tried several things to find out what this means, with no success. Please advise.
This error is basically a fatal error. you will endd up needing to replace your hard drive soon but if you dont like doing a recovery every few days and loosing your information all the time replace the hard drive
Eventually you have to reinstall your os every time you try to start your comp. But what did help mine is dont defrag and dont update certain windows updates after you reinstall os or do destructive sys. recovery !
By the way The non destructive sys. recovery & sys. restore wont do, you have to do the destructive sys. recovery.

I too have a Compaq Presario and exactly the same thing keeps happening to me (4 times in less than 2 years), forcing me each time to do a destructive recovery which returns my PC to its delivery settings and forcing me to re-install all my data and post delivery software. It is a real pain and HP were NOT interested even when it was in warranty!
same problem, how can i get force windows to start so i can recover a file. i get missing or corrupt: window\systems32\config\system

HD521-2W FROM PC DOCTOR failed short self test.guess the undies are in a bunch , need to know how to pull out the hd521-2w / other wise no problems ,runs quiet ... well there are problems , but cannot relate them. you know how relatives can be.I SEE SO MANY HAVE THIS PROBLEM HD521-2W NOW.is there a virus or what ?
