The mini walkie talkie emblem has a variety of meanings. If the emblem has parenthese around it your PTT (push to talk) button is depressed, stuck or partially depressed. If the emblem does not have parenthese your radio is in receive mode, awaiting a call.

It is possible you do not have your radio programmed identical to the other radio(s). Your frequency and interference code eliminator must be identical to those used in the other radios. Here is a link to the manual where you can check this http://www.motorola.com/staticfiles/Business/Products/Two-Way%20Radios%20-%20Unlicensed/_Documents/XTR446/Static%20Files/XTR%20Manual%20EU.pdf?localeId=103 Look around page 7 for instructions.

Also, if you find your radios are programmed identically, the other problem might be bad or low batteries, as it takes more energy to transmit than to receive.

Best regards.

Sometimes a lot of static can be an indication of a bad or poorly charged battery. To check for this trade batteries with your known good radio and see if it solves the problem.

Motorola XTR 446 talkie walkie is not receiving

Try programming the radios without an eliminator code and see if they work together then. If so, there is something wrong with the eliminator code portion of the radio. Also, check your batteries, switch batteries between the units and see if the problem moves to the other unit. It takes more energy to transmit than receive, so a bad or very weak battery could exhibit a similar problem. The radio icon will illuminate whenever a radio is transmitting or receiving. When the radio is in standby mode, the icon should not be shown. Your radio with the icon on all the time may be stuck in transmit. Check your PTT button to see if it is slightly stuck or depressed. We have a set of 6 XTR446 about 2.5 years old. 3 of the handsets are (for no apparent reason) displaying the little handset icon permanently and not operating (either to receive or transmit). One of the...

In order to reset the radio, power on while pressing both volume buttons (+ and -) together with the PTT (speak) button, until you year a high-pitched tone.

But I have found that the "stuck on receive" problem is related to the battery voltage: non-rechargable AAA or incorrectly charged batteries can give 0.2-1.0V above the nominal voltage. Try to leave the radio on for a few hours or replace some of the four AAA batteries with slightly exhausted ones and see if that helps.

Walkie talkie symbol stuck on cannot remove it

The symbol you are describing indicates you have the radio on HI power. It will not go away unless you reprogram the radio to LOW power, or change to a low power channel.
