Projection TV sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the video to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

This is a very common failure on these projection sets and a fairly simple DIY fix. All projection sets including Samsung, RCA, Sony, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Pioneer, Akai, GE, JVC, Toshiba, and others at some point will have the same problem.

Common Symptoms include....

 • Screen looks 3D
 • Colors don't line up
 • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
 • Screen is bowed or warped.
 • TV shuts off after powering on. Power light will blink. TV may also make a chirping noise.
Here are some photos of convergence problems.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the settings menu then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move RED and BLUE in all directions - up, down, left, and right. And you should be able to get the grid straight.

If you can't move them in all directions or cant move them far enough your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

Note: If you TV has as flash focus or magic focus button only try prSony rear projection tv is blurry and looks like - 69189a5.pngbutton. If it fails to fix the convergence your need to fix it. See below for a fix

SOURCE: Sony rear projection tv is blurry and looks like

Projection TV sets are known to have two common problems. The first problem that is common to these sets is convergence failure. When this happens the TV will usually look 3D, Wavy/Distorted, etc. It may also shutdown and blink an error code.

The second common problem with Projection TV sets is dull video, halos around objects, white looking video, or red overpowers the screen. This is commonly caused by the fluid in the lens being clouded overs.

Tv looks blurry on the right side

You will also find there is colour disorientation in these areas. The reason is that your settings on the york had shifted, also it could be due to failure of the degaussing coil, or if there is any fault with the convergence inside the picture tube which could be a major fault.
Try to degauss, see the picture tube neck for any ring magnets out of alignment, also check the focussing in the rear panel which could have shifted.

Sony KP-51WS510 the picture is blurry, except for the center of the picture and the picture looks concaved. Sometimes it looks as if the picture is in 3D. Is this worth fixing?

You have a convergence problem very typical of rear projection tv's. This set has (2) STK392-560 IC's and there may also be a resistor or two that needs to be replaced.

I have found that on this set you need to check the pico fuses on the power supply board (there are two located parallel to each other) and on the convergence board (underneath the aluminum heat sink where the IC's are mounted).

My kp-51ws-510 looks like 3D! How can I fix this

TV shows that kind of picture when convergence out ICs become defective.
Replace 2 big black convergence ICs on D board in TV, these ICs are mounted on silver heat sink, requires soldering work if you are not comfortable with replacing ICs, call local tv tech.
Let me know if there is any further question.
Thanks.

3D blurry picture

The convergence ICs and resistors need replacement. The DPTV305-345 convergence repair kit works for most Phillips rear projection Tvs. The kit contains the two ICs 12 resistors and the CD with detailed instructions

Sony rear projestion TV has blurry picture.

sounds as if your convergence needs to be set. either through the menu on the tv or remote you need to get to the convergence set screen and you need to line up the crosshairs. this usually happens when the tv is moved or bumped.
